“cheap and not cheerful”

Imperial Hotel

16 May 2008

The entrance lobby and lounge of this hotel must once have looked splendid. There is still great potential there, but to me it was faded grandeur. The bedroom, although clean, appeared grubby (a worm on the wall from outside did not help). The en suite bathroom had no door and the shower unit was of the rubber hose/mixer tap variety. My TV remote did not work and in spite of asking for it to be fixed it wasn't in the course of my three day stay. Breakfast was very limited.

“A grand old lady - but now very tired”

Imperial Hotel

15 May 2008

Stayed here as was convenient for a specific reason. An old imposing colonial type building that was obviously very elegant. in it's time. Today, however, it is looking tired and the amenities are not up to scratch. It is rated 3 Star but I would only give it 2. The bathroom had half a shower curtain and no proper shower - just a plastic hose with a flimsy showerhead and no way to hook it onto the wall, so had to stand holding it. The washbasin gave only lukewarm water. Our room was on the ground floor and there was a lot of outside traffic noise which disturbed my sleep. As with all these old mediterranean buldings, high ceilings and tiled floors create echo and the chambermaids start early in the morning and inevitably wake you up with their chatter and moving beds around.. Staff all very courteous and friendly thoigh - as only the Maltese people can be.. Did not try the restaurant so cannot comment on that. No room service - you can request breakfast in your room but that's it. I asked for tea and biscuits just after the official breakfast time and they turned up with fruit cake as they had no biscuits. Very sweet!.
So, to sum up - wonderfully nostalgic of a bygone age, but not up to the mark of what might be expected in a hotel today.

“GoodValue- Quiet”

Imperial Hotel

26 Apr 2008

The Imperial is a grand old building with the most impressive lobby and stairway wrapping around the lobby to the second floor. The hotel is older, and the interior is older, but maintained and clean. The rooms are large, with easy access for anyone, including those in wheelchairs. The whole hotel is wheelchair accessable. The bathrooms large and clean. The bar is full service, and the pool has a bar as well. Overall, the clientel are in their 50's+, but as a couple in our thirties, we loved the visit. Quiet, private, and located 1/2 way between Valleta and St Julian. We rented a scooter, which made travel very easy. It's about 1/2 mile to walk to the pleasant waterside walk. We enjoyed the hotel, the quietness, and the waiter served very good meals.

“Do you like scrambled eggs and beans 24/7?”

Imperial Hotel

19 Mar 2008

Situated on a ridge up a hill between the ferry and the esplanade - well located for all amenities. Hotel comfortable and very clean. Pool and sunbathing areas good - however the food is cheap and nasty - such a let down!! Beans and scrambled eggs every day for a week. Don't bother complaining - they look at you as if you have come from another planet. Go to "The Kitchen" on 210 Tower Road or "Il-Merill" St. Vincent Street - excellent

“Great Hotel, shame about the food”

Great Hotel,

We stayed in room 208 which is a large room with 3 beds, and a balcony. The rooms are well decorated, loads of plug sockets and was very quiet.

The style of the hotel is oldy worldy and looks wonderful.

Staff are very helpful and friendly, only bad things are:
Food is very basic (more 2 star than 3 star),
the hotel is on top of a steep hill, so not very good if you are bad on your legs, but there is a bus stop 1 min away which takes you to sleima front and valetta.
