“Expensive but worth the treat”

Hotel Le Royal Luxembourg

I had originally booked to stay in a Traditional Room through a travel agency though the agency went bust and I lost my booking. As a result I had to book flights and hotels myself. When I contacted the hotel to explain they were extremely helpful and I was upgraded to Royal Club Room. I stayed here for three nights.

My check-in was quick, efficient and very helpful and then I was lead off to a private elevator for the Royal guests. The room was fabulous, some apartments are smaller! There was lots of closet space, a huge and comfy bed, nice desk area and a lovely shower room. It was the nicest/poshest shower I have seen in a hotel and the bathrobe and slippers were a great touch. I also loved the turndown service and the doorbell/automated do not disturb option.

The complimentary fruit basket and water were a great perk. The room looked out over the entrance to the underground car park and the park.

The bar was nice though I was only in there in the early evening. I ate in Le Jardin restaurant once and it was a very nice meal though I found the small dogs (3) at the table next to me a bit off putting.

It was a great little bit of luxury on my holiday and made all the better by the treatment I received from the hotel, even before arrival.

Luxembourg is such a beautiful city and country that I will be going back and if I can afford the extra bit of luxury this is where I will be staying.

“Great hotel in a great location”

Hotel Le Royal Luxembourg

My wife and I stayed at Le Royal for 5 nights in June 2007. We were well impressed with what we got for our money. We thought that this was a great hotel in a great location. We paid 159 euros per night, which we thought was good value for our large comfortable room and a very good bathroom. Our room was smart, very nicely decorated and kept very clean for us by the housekeeping staff. There was always plenty of hot water available in the bathroom, which has not always been the case in hotels we have stayed in.

We got the impression that we were in a minority of people using the hotel for holiday purposes, the majority being on business. Given the 5 stars rating of the hotel it was not surprising that prices (breakfast, mini bar, etc.) were high; higher than we were prepared to pay. So we ate and drank elsewhere, enjoying a very reasonably priced breakfast each morning at Cafe Francais in the nearby Place D'Armes.

We made use of the hotel's courtesy shuttle bus to bring us from and take us back to the airport. This service added to the good value we felt we got from Le Royal. We didn't have much contact with the hotel's staff, but what little we did have was fine and they provided the assistance and information we needed when we asked for it.

Given the price we paid we give this hotel full marks and would recommend it for those visiting Luxembourg for a short holiday.

Luxembourg is a very picturesque city, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. During our stay we visited the lovely town of Vianden (combination of train and bus to get there - ask at the railway station for details of the train times and bus connections) and the attractive area around Remich on the Moselle (bus to get there).

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Luxembourg. More people from the UK really should go there for a short holiday. It's a great city/country and so are its very friendly residents - most of whom speak excellent English.

I stayed in a "deluxe" room for Euro 295 for one night (Tuesday) with
work. My room was on the first floor overlooking a paved area beyond which was a park.

Hotel lobby was on the small side with little privacy if you wanted to use the area for quiet discussion.

On entry into the room you enter into a carpeted hallway with two large wardrobes with mirrored sliding doors on the left, bathroom to the right and the bedroom ahead. There is a door which can be left open or closed between the hallway and the bedroom.

The bedroom comprised of a large room with a double bed (on the slightly hard side), flat screen television, armchair and footrest, large desk, telephone and broadband internet access.

The bathroom was large with a large walk-in shower with tiled seating
area. Toiletries including shower cap, shower/bath gel, shampoo, hygenie kit and comb. Adequate hairdryer mounted on the right wall directly in front of large mirror/wash basin area, with a round magnifying mirror mounted above.

The toilet was separated from the shower/washbasin area by a frosted door.

I did not sample breakfast, but general impression from work colleagues was that it was overpriced for what you get.

Location seemed convenient.

A decent hotel with a touch of luxury. Rooms however are not very spacious but clean and adequate. The location is very good if you want to stay at a 2 minute walk from the better part of town with a range of beautiful shops and excellent restaurants. A bit off-topic but ofcourse you can't skip the best restaurant in town, La Lorraine at the Place d'Armes, also at a walking distance from the hotel. Prices of the mini-bar and the parking space are hefty but probably come with the five-star status of the hotel. Although this hotel is a five-star class hotel, I rate it as average in its class. The Sofitel Luxembourg at the Rue du Fort Niedergruenewald offers a better value for your money but is located out of the city centre in some boring and grey business park.

I'll admit it, I stayed at the Hotel le Royal because I was in Luxembourg for work, so I didn't technically pay for it; but I concur that I would be suprised by the 5-star ranking. It was a nice hotel, and they showed me right up to my room, which overlooked the park & outside dining area, which was nice. Otherwise, it was just a room really, with a Bidet which you get many places in Europe. They do provide a bathrobe and slippers, but if that's all it takes to be 5-star, I'm in the wrong business.
The location is central, however, in Luxembourg, pretty much everything is central. It was a very quick 5 minute walk to the heart of Luxembourg. You do have to cross a moderately busy road though.
There is a gym, but having not brought sneakers I sadly couldn't try that. However, nothing else came with the room at all. I like places that provide breakfast with the room. This isnt one of them.
