We stayed at this hotel on the recommdation of friends who use it frequently. It is in a very pleasant location just outside Kyrenia. The accomodation is fairly basic - we stayed in a gallery bungalow which slept 4 - 2 adults and two kids (age 3 and 8). The beds were ok - a little firm - but it had a nice little wooden veranda upstairs and a small patio area downstairs overlooking the gardens and pool - with nice views of the sea and mountains in the near distance. Rooms were cleaned every day. Bathroom clean - but just a shower.
The rooms are basically furnished with a two ring hob for cooking - though we didn't use it. No kettle - perhaps I should have asked.
However - the staff were all very pleasant and friendly, and there were majic tricks to entertain the kids!! The little terrace by the bar/reception was very pleasant to sit in for breakfast (simple but adequate). By far the best feature was the private beach of sand/shingle which the kids loved.
We felt very relaxed here. The kids could run around the gardens in safety and they really enjoyed the place.
The food in the bar could do with more variety, but there are restaurants close by - including Indian and Chinese, and of course Kyrenia is just a few minutes drive away. A car is essential to see the sites.
Overall we enjoyed a relaxing stay. Don't expect 5*. It is fairly cheap and cheerful, and in April very quiet! We are returning in June and would recommend this hotel to young families. Teenages would get easilly bored.

we went to the riveria bungalows expecting a rustic retreat suitable for familes as specified in the brochure. We have a 2 year old - and prior to going i emailed the hotel and asked for a double bed because the baby sleeps with us -they said they didnt have one but would push beds together and also provide a cot .which i said was fine .We arrived there after a very long day abut 11pm to be greeted by a young lad on his own - isaid the baby was hungry could i get her something to eat his reply was the kitchen is shut - so then he took us on a perilous rocky tip to our so called superior studio . it was right on the end of the complex appearing to be in the middle of nowhere the airconditioning wasnt on -the fridge wasnt on and there wasnt even a tiny bottle of water to greet us and with a tired and hot toddler i was not impressed. Then i noticed the beds werent pushed together -my partner walked past the cot they had provided for the baby and it literally fell to pieces collapsing on the floor. i was furious !.got into bed withe smelly dank covers and spent all night trying to hold the baby in the bed .
morning came went to breakfast which we couldnt touch it looked tired and uninspired and waited for our rep to come ,when he arrived he couldnt be more helpful and moved us to the fabulous ship hotel where it was amazing .

i would not reccommend riveria to anyone unless you enjoy total solitude in poor suroundings with poor food and a poor attitude .

Riviera is tucked away from the main road a couple of miles out of Kyrenia with its own secluded beachfront location. Accommodation is simple but comfortable. A small restaurant with a veranda with lovely views to the sea and the mountains serves simple and rather dull food, yet is an idyllic place to sit and relax. There is a very large circular swimmming pool towards the back of the complex with a stone fronted waterfall. The private and secluded beachfront includes both a sandy area and several smaller terraces. Steps and stepping stones lead into the sea in which the rocky bottom provides excellent snorkelling with the fishes.

There are about forty 'units' and we stayed in one of the 22 air conditioned 'galleried bungalows' with very basic and limited self- catering facilites. This accommodation is arranged around a delightful wooded and flower filled garden. The studios are closer to the sandy beach. We disn't encounter the more modern 'superior' apartments; though they appear in the hotel's blurb to lack the natural wooden charm of the bungalows and studios.

Although at the height of the season the complex was remarkably quiet and tranquil: a real 'get away from it all' atmosphere. With so much space around the pool and beach and jetties it would be possible to stay here without meeting another soul whilst slowly reading ones way through the large airport bookstand collection provided in the small reception area. A car is recommended although it a short taxi hop into town and a few minutes walk brings you to a really good open air Indian restaurant (Jashan's) and, a little further, a large supermarket (and depressingly familiar burger joint).

Maybe it was the completely relaxed and tranquil atmosphere, but small matters like a hotplate that wouldn't heat and a missing TV aerial (hardly a sacrifice) mattered little in such a laid back retreat. Requests (for an electric kettle for instance) were met courteously and quickly. All the staff were warm and friendly and the hotel's elder stateman offered (unsuccessful) raiki for a swollen foot and (very successful) card tricks - the only 'entertainment' on offer!

The whole place feels a little 'faded'. There was clearly a great deal of thoughtful investment in establishing and designing the spacious complex, but it has gradually faded. The roadside sign is dilapidated; the poolside bar abandoned and installations by the jetty rather overgrown. Yet in such a relaxing and rustic setting these just added to the faded charm of the place.

If you are an 'everything has got to be perfect or I shall complain' sort of person or one who likes a lively setting and party nights, the Riviera is not a place to come to. But if you want to get away from it all, enjoy the tranquility of the beachside and the pool and the beautiful natural gardens within easy access to town, it proved to be an inexpensive and excellent choice.

The complex has a quirky website at (--) (with a jumping camel populated map at (--)).
