“wonderful for families”

Acapulco Beach Resort

It is hard to suggest anywhere better for parents with young families. The Acapulco caters for just about everything they could need. A beach, pools (plural), waterslides, creche, fun park -you name it the children will love it. I stayed here in August 2006 for a few days. The hotel runs a very cheap return air-conditioned bus service to town (Girne) all day, where there is much to do and where the people are really pleasant -a lovely day out meeting folk and seeing the medieval castle, etc. In the evening there's the casino for those who want, or live entertainment at several clubs on site. The food, via a gigantic buffet, is superb. Truly. I was blown away by the freshness and sheer quality of cooking. And here, being a man who likes COLD beer, I found cold beer!. Not usual. But here not only is the beer (Efes) cold, but the glass is frosted too. Wow! The place was crowded by happy happy families. That told me a lot. I have to recommend this place, and highly.

Me and my party spent 10,000 + on a holiday to the acapulco - which included my wedding....

It was not a nice experience and i will just list a few reasons why.

1. when we arrived having paid extra for the sea view rooms we were all gien the wrong rooms infact they all had sea view but about 1 % in the very corner of your balcony if you lean accross............. when we complained we were told they are sea view and thats that! not interested in your complaints they laugh and say 'its not my problem!'

2. Woodwork in hotel is scratched to bits, carpets stained, Walls in some rooms have damp patches or massive cracks in the wall.

3. Bathroom shower head no good and curtain not big enough - bathroom flooded every day

4. Service at poolside bar and restaurant non existant - about 10 members of staff stood around chatting - i had to walk over to them and ask them to serve us.

5. 9 out of 10 food orders came wrong (either 1 extra dish we never ordered and they still want you to pay for - or a couple of dishes missing meaning everyone had to eat at different times)

6. Champagne and fruit was ordered and paid for by my fiance in reception to be delivered to my room before wedding - it never came and it was there the next day dried up and warm......... reception staff insisted they would not give us a refund again the gentleman said 'dont shout at me - its not my problem (after days of complaining it was removed from bill but not until we had whinged and stressed ourselves out on what we wanted to be a relaxing, quiet honeymoon).

7. Parking spaces are reserved for Casino goers (Casino Goers always get prioriry) And hotel guests have to spend ages looking for a parking space.

8.Mini bar and drinks / food in hotel is very expensive

9. When my bill come at the end of the week it had about 5 items that we didnt have - including 2 turkish baths - when we disputed it the lady from the baths came to reception and said she remebered us personally.......... this was a lie and eventually again after hours of screaming it was removed.....(check your bill thoroughly).

10. On the weekends the hotel is packed with locals and when i say packed i mean packed - no sun loungers by pool, no sun loungers on beach, nowhere to sit in restaurant...... basically you sit in you room or go out for 2 days....

11. its very far from town 25 min drive

There are good points to this hotel and i am not a tourist who is never pleased as we have visited turkey and north cyprus on many occasions and have always been happy.

Good Points

Beach is lovely, Sea is lovely, it has tennis courts, breakfast and dinner ok - altho i much preferred to eat out! Late staff in hotel lobby bar really friendly and efficient, Maids are great.....

This hotel has no management - if it were better managed and the above points were dealt with (basically customer relations) it wold be a fantastic hotel right on the seafront and a great pool - but it would have to change its policies greatly before i visited again!

“Great choice”

Spent a really enjoyable week at the hotel at the end of March. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the attention to detail was impressive (always an indication of special rather than average). The restaurant was buffet style but the selection was wide and even though the hotel was not busy, the food was still fresh. The room was ideal - good sized , functional and clean.

The grounds were immaculate/ spacious and the beach looked very pleasant (and close). The body treatments (particularly massages) were good VFM.

I thought it was lovely in March, but I am not sure I would enjoy it quite so much in August, when at full capacity, although I guess the same goes for any family hotel. One word of caution for the summer though: for a small fee local families can use the hotel grounds at the weekends. Could make over-crowding even worse.

Frankly, very disappointed. Following our return from holiday, we find that at least one UK holiday company has stopped offering this hotel and we are not surprised. Food was plentiful and reasonable, though frequently not hot and a little bland. Rooms ok and clean, but we were constantly stopped by hotel personnel checking we were not bringing drinks in from outside. Very intimidating. We also had concerns about safety in places - no stickers on glass doors, tiles and grilles missing from pools. We have stayed in other hotels in Kyrenia and been very happy, but whilst we will return, it won't be here.

“Hotel location excellent, petty rules ruined it”

Acapulco Beach Resort

The hotel is very clean and we had a lovely sea view room in the hotel. The dining facilities were rather disappointing as too many steps and not enough staff to cope with so many people. Food was acceptable. On the first day I went shopping and brought back a bottle of coke and a packet of crisps ( as one of our party is a diabetic and has to have some food on hand) and then as we got out of the taxi security frog-marched us to reception to hand over our pruchases who suggested they would return them on our departure (2 weeks later). I felt I was back in boarding school - The petty rule of not allowing guests to bring their own food and drink to their rooms is rather petty as the mini bar prices are far too high for the majority to enjoy. Guests having drinks and kettles taken off them seems rather trival. A great shame as it gave Northern Cyprus a very bad impression for most guests and there are many more countries who are more than happy to welcome tourists.
