The Dome Hotel, as someone else described it, is "Faded Grandeur" at its best! It certainly comes from a bygone age but the Art Deco glass windows are beautiful. My husband has a mobility scooter so I had asked for a large room, which is certainly what we got! We were on the front of the hotel, overlooking the town, so it was obviously noisy and we used the air conditioning all the time. Most of the time it worked wonderfully, except one night when it was turned off! When I enquired why there was no AC I was told that "it had been turned off at the discretion of the Manager"!!!!!!!! My tour operator, whom I telephoned at 8.00 am the next morning, sorted this out immediately and everything was fine. She was told that there had been a fault! Not what I had been told the night before!
From the hotel website I saw that rooms were equipped with tea and coffee making facilities but, on arrival, they were not there. I was told by one of the rather unhelpful desk staff that these were only provided in suites! I then saw the Manager and, after finding the website on his computer, he agreed to provide a kettle/cups/tea/coffee immediately.
The decor and facilities in the rooms are fine - a bit slapdash and drab, but clean and comfortable, etc. The pressure on the shower was so weak that you had to run around under it to get wet!
We travelled with another couple and they changed their room three times! First room was like a cupboard. Second room was situated beside some sort of boiler and they could hear it fire up all day and night! Third room was fine.
Staff at the hotel in the dining rooms, bars, etc, were wonderful - so kind, friendly and helpful, which is more than can be said for the Reception Desk staff. A special mention must go to the little guy down by the pool who ran around giving out towels, sunbeds etc, and who also delivered drinks/food from the cafe directly to your sunbed table. I really feel that he deserves a big bonus - he did the work of a dozen men and always with a smile.
The sea-pool was a big hit - what a great idea. Worth mentioning here that the last step down to the sea-pool can be very slippery - take care! The hotel has the most wonderful situation, being in the heart of the town and within easy strolling distance from the harbour/town/etc. Loved it!
