We currently live and work in the south of Cyprus and have stayed here twice before. Just returned from a weekend here and thought why not write a review?
Firstly, the rooms are clean reasonably well equiped with good firm bed, A/C, kettle, mini bar, safe. Rooms to the rear of the hotel have an excellent view of the mountains and St Hillarion Castle.
The indoor pool is FREEZING (as it was in March) despite supposedly being heated, plus the jacuzzi was out of order. Needless to say I never saw anyone in it. Outdoor pool is a good size and big enough for kids not to take over completely. Plenty of sunbeds available even in the afternoon and towels are provided. Pool side bar serves fantastic pizzas - none of your usual frozen stuff, but fresh to order and delicious. Chips are also fresh & homemade.
On the subject of food, the breakfast is, shall we say, basic? It was OK for me as I never eat that much at breakfast and tend to save myself for lunch. We have only had one evening meal at the hotel and chose off the Mexican menu, which although quite limited in choice, presented us with a fairly authentic meal (some guacamole & jalapenos though would have made it perfect!!).
Outside the hotel, there are many restaurants worth trying. Curry lovers should try nearby Jashans or its sister restaurant, Oleander (which I think is slightly better). The Address (Grill) & Messina (Fish) are also nearby next to each other right on the seafront. Stunning setting at sunset, superb service and great value for money.
In summary, the Ship Inn has excellent staff, very friendly with a great sense of humour. Facilities are good and its only a short taxi ride into town.
We've found the Ship Inn as a great weekend "bolt hole", but equally well worth a trip from the UK for weeks stay.

“Ship Inn and good all round hotel”

The Ship Inn

26 May 2008

I booked my stay at the Ship Inn hotel with Direct Traveller, one of the specialist tour agencies for Northern Cyprus.

I stayed this May with my wife. We booked a holiday with vouchers at the Ship Inn. We got free money off to spend a the hotel.

i chose the hotel becuase it was close to town, as advised by the sales person its better to be slightly out of town rather than smack bang in the middle.. i agree.

The hotel was spacious, good service, and close enough to walk into the centre. The pool area was nice and relaxing, with lots of space in the gardens.

The only fault i can give the hotel is it doesnt have lifts, but as there are only two floors that doesnt really make a difference - its a good way to burn off all those fresh kebabs!

Overall we had a lovely time, and i am glad we booked through the Direct Traveller company as they i must say had great service. Their people were at the hotel everyday looking after all their guests.

I was a bit worried about the free vouchers that we were promised but it didnt prove a problem. we were given them by Direct Traveller and we presented them over to the reception.

At first the receptionist seemed not to know what they were, but then the rep spoke to someone who seemed to be the owner and he smilingly accepted the vouchers.

Overall:

Northern Cyprus: A must see alternative to the busy south - nice beaches, history, people and food!

Ship Inn: A good choice to access town, with a good standard of rooms and facilities without the town centre price tag!

Direct Traveller: A delight to travel with, as these people really do care. If we return next year we will travel with them again.

“North Cyprus and THE SHIP in Kyrenia”

The Ship Inn

We are a family of 4. We have been looking hard to find a suitable place to stay from Last Christmas. We have searched the Internet and looked various National newspapers .We wanted to chose our first holiday together as a whole family, somewhere that we had been not to before. We made a choice and chose North Cyprus and THE SHIP in Kyrenia. This was in 2005 – we have been going there every year and we are going again in July 2008

The complex is good and the 2 bedroom villas fine. We have the same villa (No. 201) - we go self catering –not that we do much cooking, but the excellent open space ground floor area with a fully fitted kitchenette with all amenities and mod cons are there – in case. The bedrooms are air-conditioned and the spacious sitting room has ceiling fans. The villa is only few yards away from the large swimming pool.

The facilities are excellent - 2 great pools (one indoor – not heated and one outdoor), Fitness Room, table tennis, Billiard table, tennis, very very good BRITISH BAR and staff out of this world.

The main restaurant food is one of the best in the area (these are also mentioned in THE ROUGH GUIDE 2008 Edition). The menu is wide and the quality is of high standard. The number of people dining there (many guests from outside also use the restaurant) reflects the popularity of this place.

We have arranged our own flights from BRISTOL to LARNACA. The HOTEL will pick us up by a high-class air conditioned (MERCEDES) vehicle. By doing this we have a saved around £50/person
We understand the whole place has been thoroughly totally refurbished (not that it needed!) and the new traffic arrangement in the area will make the location even more attractive.
We are really looking forward to going to the NORTH CYPRUS and to all our friends at the SHIP. We cannot wait!

Best Regards,
Sedat

“good enough”

The Ship Inn

22 Mar 2008

We travelled in July 2007. On the island for 3 weeks, 8 days at the ship inn and the remainder with family and at the vouni palace in kyrenia.

The hotel is very popular, basic, clean and noisy. Found it difficult to relax at the pool - too many screaming children and silly adults who throw basketballs around the pool - hitting people who are sunbathing.

Pool was clean but difficult to get a sunbed after 10 am.

We were on a half board basis - breakfast was disgusting - i only ever had a slide of bread/toast. Never ate from the half board menu wasn't very nice but the a la carte menu was very nice. Lunch was cheap and staff were very nice.

The tempertaure was almost unbearable outside but our room did have air conditioning - a must in cyprus!

The bill for 2 people: 8 days half board, lunch and drinks every day & evenings, and 2 nights from the a la carte menu - was about £250/280.... I thought that they had made a mistake!

The hotel was basic when compared to other hotels on the island but this was reflected in the price!

I wouldn't go back to the Ship Inn in July as it was just too busy/noisy. October is apparently a better time.

“Bad experience”

The Ship Inn

16 Mar 2008

The hotel is pleasant, and comfotable if you are in the new block, away from the main road. The weather was very hot -an unbelievable 43 with 90-95% humidity! The main problem was that along with several other guests I contacted an ear infection after using the outdoor pool. The treatment cost £100 from the local Doc, who gave an injection, tabs, cream and drops! The management did not apologuise, or admit their fault; but by the next day the pool was dramatically "chlorined". So be warned.
