We currently live and work in the south of Cyprus and have stayed here twice before. Just returned from a weekend here and thought why not write a review?
Firstly, the rooms are clean reasonably well equiped with good firm bed, A/C, kettle, mini bar, safe. Rooms to the rear of the hotel have an excellent view of the mountains and St Hillarion Castle.
The indoor pool is FREEZING (as it was in March) despite supposedly being heated, plus the jacuzzi was out of order. Needless to say I never saw anyone in it. Outdoor pool is a good size and big enough for kids not to take over completely. Plenty of sunbeds available even in the afternoon and towels are provided. Pool side bar serves fantastic pizzas - none of your usual frozen stuff, but fresh to order and delicious. Chips are also fresh & homemade.
On the subject of food, the breakfast is, shall we say, basic? It was OK for me as I never eat that much at breakfast and tend to save myself for lunch. We have only had one evening meal at the hotel and chose off the Mexican menu, which although quite limited in choice, presented us with a fairly authentic meal (some guacamole & jalapenos though would have made it perfect!!).
Outside the hotel, there are many restaurants worth trying. Curry lovers should try nearby Jashans or its sister restaurant, Oleander (which I think is slightly better). The Address (Grill) & Messina (Fish) are also nearby next to each other right on the seafront. Stunning setting at sunset, superb service and great value for money.
In summary, the Ship Inn has excellent staff, very friendly with a great sense of humour. Facilities are good and its only a short taxi ride into town.
We've found the Ship Inn as a great weekend "bolt hole", but equally well worth a trip from the UK for weeks stay.
