On entering this hotel it's clear that it deserves its 5* rating: the reception /lounge/bar area provides an immaculate haven from the heat and bustle of central Kyrenia. Our room and bathroom were of a similar high quality. Housekeeping, dining room and porterage staff provided excellent service. However, moving up to junior management this wasn't so, as we found that one or two individuals at this level were dismissive and arrogant in manner. In short, The Colony is soulless and not very welcoming to the ordinary guest. Don't be deluded by the 5*! With such a rating faultless and welcoming service, as well as expensive furnishings, is expected but our experience fell well short of this. We could only conclude that the Colony is a perfect retreat for high rolling gamblers, but not for us.

The hotel advertises itself as a 5 star spa hotel. The building is excellent, a wonderful foyer and open bar area, a classic staircase, and reasonably appointed rooms.
However, there are failings. The maid service was disappointing, twice a day to change towels albeit one night they ran out of towels and left us without any towels until 10.30 at night when they knocked to supply. The TV was faulty and instead of just replacing, at the third request 2 guys spent an hour fixing it.
Good food, food well priced, but drink prices over loaded.
Excellent pool area, in fact superb, but the gym and sauna will cost each guest $20 daily, spa facilities extra still.
Great position with just a ten minute walk to the beautiful harbour and numerous restaurants and bars.
If returning to Kyrenia would I stay here again, probably, but I wouldn't go back to Kyrenia.

The Colony is a true 5* Hotel for Kyrenia. The staff are excellent,friendly and attentive. Food is very good if overpriced as are the drinks. The rooms are nice but nothing exceptional. I am sure there are other hotels just as good and cheaper.

Cyprus is obviously known for its Mediterranean locale evidenced by the plethora of beach resorts that dot the coast. But, if your idea of a vacation is not full-time sun-bathing then you'll probably enjoy the Colony as much as I did. It is located in the fishing village of Girne (also known as Kyrenia in Greek). The location allows you to really get to know this quaint little town -- the historic fort, the shopping district and restaurants along the marina. The rooms are a good size providing a comfy bed with down comforter and marble bath. The hotel has a fabulous roof deck with views from the mountains to the water. The deck offers not just a pool but also restaurant and disco. I was in town for a wedding and as someone who prefers to "walk" a city then be isolated at a resort this worked for me.
