Having arrived in the dark we immediately realised our room was not the suite with sea view booked. Asked to be moved and we were told they could not do anything. We insisted and we were eventually moved to another room which was a suite but obviously not the one we had booked. However in the morning we were shocked at how dirty the room was, especially the carpet. We requested that the room was cleaned again which it was eventually but very poorly. We spent the whole of the next day battling with the rudest most unfriendly reception staff we have ever come across constantly being given times when a new room would be ready for viewing. We were eventually shown to another room which smelt of cigarette smoke and had burns on the carpet. In the end we had to stay in the dirty suite but, in addition, this was over the eating area and there was noise right through the night and early morning. We were absolutely exhausted with very little sleep. We agree with the other comments about the Hotel only being interested in gamblers and we believe our original room was occupied by such a person. We only had one glass and despite asking several times for a second it never arrived. On several occasions we had to ask for towels and once we were told there wasn't any as there had been a big demand for towels. Not exactly a 5* response. The terrace for breakfast wasn't open the first week we were there and the breakfast room was grotty. On several occasions the key to the room did not work and plates of food were left in the corridor all day. All in all an unpleasant experience. It defintely did not live up to the brochure description. Reception service never improved whatever was asked of them. By the way the grounds were quite nice.
