“Don't go there”

Club Lapethos

This hotel will make the happiest honeymoon couple miserable, as it did with us. First of all the rooms are dark, nestled inside banana trees, which might have not been the worst thing, if it wasn't for the dozens of bats flying around them. The air conditioning worked fairly ok in our room, since the temperature was around 42 celcius in July we wouldn't have survived otherwise.

Most of the people here are there to gamble, enjoying the free drinks at the small casino that also belongs to the facilities, getting very drunk and loud, which the hotel staff totally overlooks. It is hard to sleep at night, impossible during the day, because of the incredibly loud and totally tasteless turkish pop music playing at the pool buffet. It is so loud you can't hear yourself thinking. When asked nicely to turn it down, they have very suprising and irritating answers ready for you such as"the people like this music", if insisted they turn it down only to make it even more louder a few minutes after.
The staff is impossibly unfriendly, impossibly unhelping. Especially the cooks which serve your plate at the open buffet, they act as if the very optimistically mediocre food is a blessing. Making all kinds of impossible faces, you want to escape to the city to get something ready.
My advice would be to do yourself a favor and pay about a 100 euros extra and stay at another hotel in the area. Any holiday spent here will be a miserable and unforgettable memory for years to come.

We selected this Hotel after discovering that our original choice was likely to be under some Construction work.
This was to be an All Inclusive Holiday, styled a cut above our regular choice in this area.
How wrong can you be.
To be fair to the Hotel we were abandoned by our Tour Organiser on arrival.
The Room we were given was not of the agreed Standard, it was Dirty and more like a Self catering set up than anything else.
The kindest words would be "Studio Apartment", but apart from being grubby and a bit like the inside of a Butchers' Shop ( all marble floors, sinks and Kitchen storage cupboards) the route to the Bedroom involved narrow, winding open tread stairs to a Mezzanine area with low balcony. Bit like living on top of a Cupboard.!
We were moved ( or rather moved everything ourselves) to the Main Hotel MUCH further up the site, and given a Room there. This at 7o'clock in the morning !
This room was O.K. EXCEPT, No Aircon working, No Bathroom extraction, and No working Toilet.
Apart from these and the 40 Degrees heat it overlooked a Maintenance Yard full of Old Vehicles and no fewer than 6 significant Ventilation Discharge Ducts from a Laundry, Kitchen and Casino, PLUS a 15 Metre high Chimney from the main Oil Fired Boiler.
Hot, noisy, smelly and a potential Sauna, with no Loo.
A fundamental problem, i.e. that the Hotel was adamant that it NO LONGER DID All inclusive, but that if we insisted they could serve 2 of our 3 Meals a day in our Room. This to avoid having to walk 800 Metres every time just to get to the Restaurant.
Bit like Prisoner on Remand, rather than a Holiday.
This restaurant, at that time the only one on site, being the other side of the Coast Road from the Hotel, negotiated through a 30 Metre long Tunnel, sloping at a good 30 degrees.
The exercise made us feel like Rabbits, disappearing below Ground.
Grudgingly we were granted All Inclusive, but we found that the interpretation was not just 'local Drinks' only, but local drinks of their nomination.
Cheap Beer and Wine that we have never tasted as bad before. N Cyprus is not renowned for it's wine quality, but this was the Pits !
Finally, having burned the ears of our by now much chastened Tour Organiser we were moved to an alternate and better ( though not as boastful ) Hotel.
Club Lapethos appears to exist solely as a venue for the Gamblers who visit the Casino.
These are transient Visitors, probably only for a few days.
In our time, Mid June, it was like Ghost town, with the majority of the very small number of Guests seeming to be Casino bound.
The Internet Cafe was in fact being used as a Wine Store, by the case.
The Games Room was floor to ceiling Double Bed mattresses.
A lot of the Villas, Studio Apartments or whatever on the site had Builders in them, in various stages of upgrading, repairing or just messing about.
We had the feeling that we had arrived before they had finished, or else were so arrogant that they felt that Guests wouldn't mind holidaying on a Site in Progress?
All in all a very poor experience and most certainly not a place I would recommend to anyone else.
Might be O.K. if you are a Turkish Gambler, as the food largely reflects Turkish taste.
You'd certainly be advised to be a Teetotaller, as the drinks reflect their obvious cost price. The sale prices, for the quality we found, would have been exorbitant.

Club Lapethos.... not for Us.! Can't imagine the dreadful thought of being stuck there for 2 whole weeks !
