We booked our holiday through Direct Traveller, flying into Larnaca and transported by mini bus. It only took 75 minutes. We arrived at the Top Set Hotel and found the reception staff very friendly. Our rooms were overlooking the pool and sea. We had a lounge area downstairs, with plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space, with a large fridge and balcony and upstairs we had the bedroom and more wardrobe space and bathroom. I agree with a previous person who had stayed there that the rooms have a rustic feel to them. We had half board for the first week and bed and breakfast for the second. Breakfast is served indoors in a very pleasant dining room. Fresh orange juice, tea and coffee. One day boiled eggs and another scrambled eggs. One cereal, cheeses and olives. Toast is served to your table every day. Then there is melon, slices of orange, figs and dates, there is also yoghurt. There was a good 4 course evening meal but the one critisism I have is that there was no choice of main meal. Evening meals were served outside on the balcony overlooking the sea. Everything around the Top Set seemed relaxing. Sometimes we were the only ones in the pool, not crowded with loads of children. The beach is man made, and the sea has rocks/stones but you are able to swim easily. All the staff were very helpful. We hired a car for three days, which is a must if you really want to see the real country. We went to Famagusta old town, Salamis ruins and sandy beach, then crossed over the mountain to the other side and came back along the coast. We stopped at Turtle Beach to get a drink only to find that the Turtle volunteers were putting a cord up around one of the nests on the beach. They were getting the hatched turtles out of a nest, which we were all able to watch. This was the third night and the ones they had got out the previous night had been tagged and they later released them into the water and we watched them swim away. This was fantastic. The next day we went to Bellapais and the monastery and then to St Hillarion Castle. The views were fantastic and the castle ruins were amazing. Despite the temperatures being in the 40's we still climbed right to the top. The Top Set Hotel is situated down a side road. It only took a few minutes walk to the main road where we used to catch the dolmus' to Kyrenia. These were very frequent and only cost 1.50 turkish lire around 65p. They operated throughout the day and evening. There are several good restaurants nearby, anything from 10 to 20 minutes walk from the hotel. Also eating around the harbour and at Bellapais the views are lovely. In Kyrenia we had lovely iced coffees in To Limani cafe around the harbour. Once tasted we were hooked. The boat trips from the harbour are very good. Most of them only take up to 20 people so you can lay out on them and enjoy your day. We chose the Top Set because it was near to Kyrenia, but with having the sea and breezes, being that it was August. Also we prefer a smaller hotel because they are usually more friendly. When touring around we came across a few other hotels we had considered and knew we had made the correct choice of location. The hotel was clean and staff very friendly. Direct Traveller were also a very good tour operator, cheaper than booking through Travel Agents.
