Yes as previous reviewers said there are mixed comments for Annabelle. So I will try as in other reviews of mine to be as much as consistent, fair and honest with it.
We have been there in June after transferring our booking we had at Almyra actually.
How this happened? We had been called by the Reservations staff (both hotels belong to the same company) and were asked to go to Annabelle instead of Almyra and were offered a room upgrade to studio suite sea view plus a dinner at Fontana restaurant. Our original booking at Almyra was for a sea view room. After asking why , I was told that they did this due to many requests for Almyra on the specific date since public holiday, so they actually tried to give some work for Annabelle too. I guessed that those requesting for Almyra were also offered something similar to us and definetely some of them did not accept the offer. Anyway I thought why not giving it a chance and accepted.
In the end it appeared to be better in our case since with child, the room was much more comfortable compared to the one we booked at Almyra, the hotel surroundings more beautiful, more quiet and overall atmosphere was better than Almyra which is situated just next to it.
Near the harbor with the old castle , you can walk down the walkway to get there, nearby there is quite a good number of pubs, bars , restaurants, souvenir shops but definitely at that place , you cannot find the best beach.
Annabelle was built 30 years ago. This explains why it has beautifully grown mature gardens that along with the rest of the outside common use areas are very well cared for. Talking for the outside, sad to tell the parking place is too small for the size of the hotel. And I mean it. Of course they will send you to another public parking place near there which takes 5 minutes on foot to return.
The age of the hotel also explains some signs of wear in the room we had been given in general and especially the bathroom equipment, the doors, the handles and some of the furniture. The walls were freshly painted; the floor was beautiful marble adding to the luxurious feeling. The sleep quality was quite good although the mattress felt a little old and some noise was coming from the corridor some times. The balcony was big with nice view to the harbor on the right side but sea view in the front was interrupted from the hotel’s bungalows built before the building we were in. ---Overall as regards the room I actually felt being in a 5 star hotel room but sort of decadent ---.
A plain rectangle one , nothing special but still nice. The sunbeds are allocated on a first come first served basis and the hotel have a policy which I find good, if you are not there for half an hour your stuff is removed. That means you cannot throw a towel on a sunbed to "reserve" it and leave to return after 1,2 or even more hours with other guests not having one.
Only been to Fontana since having free dinner for both nights (one from Almyra's booking and one from the upgrade). Every night different themed, one was Italian the other English, liked the Italian best. Service was perfect, drinks little pricey but acceptable in my view since 5 star service and quality.
The breakfast at Fontana was of high standard and well varied.
As for the pool bar, it didn't impress me with its snacks and drinks. I found it average.
A 5 star hotel that really needs renovations to be carried out in the rooms , but with good surrounding areas, cleanliness at high levels, friendly and helpful staff, restaurant with good variety and food quality.
VALUE FOR MONEY/VISIT AGAIN?
Well, if I had to pay the normal prices quoted, NO, sorry...
Unless you get a bargain price or at least an upgrade I wouldn’t suggest it , with every honesty !!
