We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Amathus I can honestly say It was the perfect holiday.
The food was great with various restaurants to eat in and all the staff were very happy, helpful, polite and friendly.
The seating in and out of the hotel was very good and the room was very nice we had a side sea view. drinks were a little on the expensive but this is a 5 star Hotel.
People who give this hotel negatives must be looking for UTOPIA.
We are going back next year as many of the guests return year after year.

“A Wonderful Holiday!”

We have just returned from a wonderful fortnight's holiday at the Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable, modern and clean. The domestic staff are dedicated, careful and pay great attention to cleanliness. Ok, so they sometimes forget to replace the soap or tissues, but they are always in the corridor somewhere and are only too happy to provide you with whatever you want - we couldn't fault them. The quality of the soaps, shampoos and shower gels etc is not great, but they're perfectly adequate unless you really expect a brand or label of some sort. We simply ignored the silly notices saying you couldn't eat or drink anything you'd brought in and it was never a problem, despite the bin being full of empties, wrappers and peel etc every day. The prices of wine and drinks at the hotel are extortionate, so we would have a drink in our room before dinner and confine ourselves to water and a glass of house wine in the restaurant. The AsiaChi and Rotisserie are also outrageously expensive and are best avoided, as there are plenty of excellent restaurants available within easy walking distance outside, if you want to eat out. We were on a free half board upgrade and this made all the difference, as the food in La Luna Rosa and the Byzantium was excellent. The buffet menu changes every night and we were really spoilt for choice. The restaurant staff are also excellent and make a big effort to make you feel special. The breakfast selections are sensational, the best we have ever had. The entertainment varies and was always pleasant, with the violinists in the Byzantium being particularly good. The outdoor pool and facilities are first class - we had no trouble at all getting loungers wherever we wanted at any time - the pool attendants are terrific and will help you or get you whatever you want at any time. The loungers are the most comfortable we have ever had and the layout of the whole poolside area, right down to the sea, is exceptionally well designed, maintained and serviced. We used the gym every day, more or less, or went to the classes at 10:30 every morning - there's a new Hungarian fitness instructor there at the moment - Monica - and she is so enthusiastic, encouraging and happy with her job - we were sorry to leave her at the end. There was no charge for the classes. The gym is a bit small, but the equipment is modern, well maintained and perfectly adequate for our needs, though it lacked a rower. The indoor pool and the new lap pool is heated and was sometimes too warm for our liking, but very pleasant none the less. Some people have complained about Reception, but we always found them to be helpful, pleasant and quick to help us whenever we had a query or problem, which wasn't very often. The pub on the corner outside the hotel was a godsend, as they showed all the footy that we would otherwise have missed, though there were others showing the footy further away. The local beer and wine is cheap and excellent, the owners are very welcoming and friendly and we had lunch there quite often. The Amathus claims to be one of the Leading Hotels in the World, but it doesn't quite live up to this expectation, in my opinion. It is a genuinely first class hotel, the facilities and services are excellent, but it is let down by the exorbitant prices they charge in their bars and restaurants. The strange thing is that if you're on half board and want to eat in the Rotisserie or Asiachi, then you get a 19 euro discount and pay the difference, but if you have to pay for the buffet in La Luna Rosa or Byzantium, then it costs you 34 euros! All in all, we had a great holiday there and I would very happily go back. I think it's very good value for money if you can get a deal that includes half board, otherwise it looks a little expensive.

“Tale of two attitudes”

Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel

6 May 2008
5/5 found this review helpful

The hotel is set in beautiful and very well-tended grounds on the beach. Our room was spacious with glorious views over the pool and the sea. The staff were friendly, caring and helpful with altogether the right attitude to make for a pleasant stay. The management, however, showed a different and rather prescriptive attitude ranging from instructions not to put anything in the minibar which had not been purchased in the hotel (would that include milk we bought outside for morning tea?) and not to consume anything in the room which had been bought outside the hotel "in accordance with international hotel regulations". What regulations were these, we wondered. There were too many small mistakes made in the way the room was serviced - non replacement of used items, for example - the fact that the mini-bar was only serviced six days out of 14 and on two of those days it was restocked with the wrong items.( One result of this is that you have to order the replacement items from room service and pay an extra room service charge). Drinks were served in the wrong glasses. In one section of the breakfast room diners helped themselves to juices etc from dipensers. Try that in another section of the same room and take orange juice from a jug and you risk a sharp reprimand "I'll take that to your table if you don't mind, sir". Some inconsistency here.

We booked half board which was a mistake as there are many restaurants nearby. The hotel has two expensive restaurants - the AsiaChi and La Rotisserie where the food and service were excellent and you get a discount for being on half-board. But the other two restaurants, the Luna Rosa and the Byzantiumn coffee shop which are included in the half-board terms, usually have the same menus which feature buffets which seem to differ from night to night in name only. There are few dishes which distinguish the flambe buffet from the Mediterranean buffet, or the BBQ buffet, or the carvery buffet. And once the food has been put in chafing dishes it is left to dry out and go hard. We never saw any dishes being refreshed. There is a set menu as an alternative which is passable. Breakfasts, however, are spectacular. A huge choice, dishes constantly being refreshed, eggs and omelettes cooked to order , vast quantities of fesh fruit, pastries, juices - even sparkling wine.

The pool is excellent, the weather was terrific, the staff helpful - but it doesn't add up to "Leading hotels of the world" status from our point of view.

As one of the organisers of a golfers 'exploration party' ,the PABH was an excellent base for our visits to the three golf courses ,all within 30 minutes travelling distance away.
The welcome at the hotel , the location by the beach and yet handy for the town, the friendliness of the staff, the rooms, the bars and restaurants , could not be faulted.
Early breakfasts were required , and the most amazing spread & selection were provided.Four nights were perfect for a golf break , but more would be needed there for a relaxing beach & historical/archeological visiting holiday. Without doubt , I will return....

“Agree with the Member from Yorkshire”

Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel

Like the member from Yorkshire we really like the Paphos Amathus. We have been four times but unfortunately didn't get there this year as we went to the Oceana in Hammamet and the Four Seasons in Limassol. We have always received a warm welcome and would agree that the sunbathing areas are very nice. It is a hotel we would always return to for relaxation in comfort with good friendly service. Yes you can say that Paphos is tacky but there are a number of very nice restaurants in the immediate area and if you take a trip
a bit further afield to the Troodos mountains or surroundng villages you will see the real Cyprus which is wonderful.
