“Needs to make its mind up who it caters for!”

Having had our first child last year we still wanted to experience the same stylish hotels that we previously had as a couple. At first glance the Almyra appeared to fulfill this need.

We arrived late at night and were greeted warmly by the night reception and were given sandwiches and drinks rapidly, our room was great, we had pre ordered a lot of baby gear through their "baby go lightly" programme and it was all laid out in the room. The first few days were fantastic, everyone was very friendly to us and the baby and couldn't help us more, food was great too.

Three days into the holiday a wedding party arrived from the UK, there were approx 60 of them and thats when our stay went downhill, they took over the hotel and were rude and obxnoxius, more like the tourist you would expect to see walking around paphos, swearing with their shirts off, I was not happy. They took over the pool area and reserved all the beds in the morning so no other guests could use the beds but the biggest issue I had was on the night of the wedding. A firework display took place outside our room at 12 midnight, we were facing the room that the wedding was in and the music continued until 4 am that morning with the doors open!!! We complained and my husband went to reception and asked to speak to the manger, they weren't interested and basically told us it was tough and we would have to put up with, we paid approx £350Stg per night for our one bedroom suite and this is not the type of service I expect for this price.

They advertise themselves as a baby/family friendly hotel but for the last three days this wasn't the case, they didn't give a damn about other guests and closed one of the restauarants the next day for the wedding party, if I was paying a lot less than we did I would still be unhappy but at these prices I expect things to be exceptional.

It is a beautiful hotel and a great location but they need to decide if they are catering for the "wedding abroad" mass market or pitching themsleves as an exlusive design hotel, which they claim they are but sadly fall rather short of at the moment.

Thank you for staying with us at the Almyra and for your kind comments regarding the first part of your stay. We strive to provide families with an environment that is appealing to the parents, while being child-friendly.

We would like to apologise for the disturbance caused by the function, which we understand that was not pleasant. We apologised to any guest who contacted the reception and also offered compensation for the inconvenience in the days that followed.

Although we understand that we should have done more to have prevented any inconvenience we value your comments and suggestions and will make every effort to manage similar situations in a better way in the future. We are sorry but the hotel can do very little when it comes to guests reserving the sunbeds, or being noisy around the pool area.

Thank you once again for staying with us at the Almyra, and we would welcome another chance to prove that we provide excellent hospitality.

Thank you.

“Overpriced, atmosphere not as relaxed as expected”

It didn´t live up to our expectations. Besides the really great breakfast, the lovely view from the reception area, unfortunately, all the negative you read from the other reviews are very true. Before booking this place we were simply not aware of the family-friendly note... indeed there were loads of toddlers and babies, whose parents preferred to occupy all the nice daybeds at the pool area, all day long. To relax or enjoy reading a book you were forced to move over to a less attractive lawn area. This was really putting us off. We like children-friendly places, as long as it doesn´t mean that other guests who travel on their own (e.g. for a wedding anniversary, like we did) are payed less respect. We had found this place advertised as a chill out, relaxing place...
Quality: at a first look it all looks really cool, at a second look you find that a lot of parts are simply overpainted from the previous 70ish hotel. Poor finishings, not at all what you would expect for the price. Also be aware that the beautiful verandas you see in the traveller magazines come only with the quite expensive villas, they are not for use of other guests. Plus they are not "private" at all, as they are overlooked by other parts of the hotel as well as the neighbouring place.
Pafos itself is ...well, how shall we put it... full of that sort of tourists who think they can take of their shirts not only at the pool. A beach is basically not existent or ugly.

We toured the whole Island but found it all in all quite expensive for what you get, compared to other, perhaps better cared for destinations.

“Great Hotel, shame about the Town”

We have just returned from a superb week at the Almyra, this being our first proper holiday with our 3 month old baby. The hotel was exactly what we needed to relax for the week, a great combination of style, great food and service with a smile. Being able to prebook baby gyms, sterlising machines and cots was also a big thumbs up! The hotel sells itself as family friendly, and it appeared that most of the guests were taking advantage of this. This may put of some couples who want a child free chill out location. The only downside was the resort, which frankly just does not compete with the history and style you get in other european resorts. If you want to be able to explore the local region and to be impressed by the history, old cobblled streets, then Paphos is not for you. It does have 1 or 2 restaurants worth visiting, The Seagull for example, but the rest are not great. Overall if you want a hotel to collapse in for a week, that has great facilities, attention to detail and great service then the Almyra is for you.

“overpriced style over substance - shame”

Almyra Hotel

We stayed recently and first impressions were great, with obviously well trained, courteous and friendly (without being too familiar) staff at the reception. Trendy cafe del mar type music throughout, and welcome cypriot-candies and drinks helped create this impression.

We booked a sea view 'veranda' room in the main building and the room did indeed have a wonderful sea view, but the 'veranda' was in fact a fairly small balcony. Although the room was indeed minimalist trendy, the quality of the fittings and furniture was actually rather poor - It was obvious that many parts of the original hotel had simply been painted over.

We commented to the staff that the rack-rate which we were charged was rather too much for this sort of room and the reply was simply that that was the price and there was no flexibility.

We must say however that the enormous bed and the sound of the waves crashing on the sea wall outside resulted in a fabulous sleep, and, despite our initial fears due to the lack of any insulating items in the room, we could not hear any noise from the room next door.

The main disappointment however was the town itself. There is no beach to speak of and the coast in town itself is in fact quite ugly when compared to other spots on the Med (or even within Cyprus). The main tourist area behind the hotel has lamentably gone the same way as so many other bucket and spade 'all day english breakfast' Med spots. Great place for a party, but not exactly classy (unless you find where the Cypriots hang out). The 'old town' doesn't exactly charm either. Once you get away from the city though, things improve remarkably, but the local beaches still won't win any prizes.

Overall, top marks for the staff; the swimming pool set up (incl live band on Sundays); and the attempt to create a 'design' hotel. Unfortuntely though, it could be summed up as overpriced style over substance, although we still enjoyed ourselves. One tip - you can use the facilities at the superb sister hotel Anassa in Polis, just over the hill. Don't be surprised if you end up wishing you'd spent that extra for real quality...

“Honeymoon at the Alymra Hotel for Mr & Mrs Candon - Laois- Ireland”

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in cyprus for two weeks, where we stayed at The Alymra Hotel Paphos.
From the moment we arrived to the hotel until the the second we departed every member of staff could not do enough for us both.
The reception area in this hotel is out of this world, you could sit there all day and night - just watching the world go by.
We were on a Bed and Breakfast basic - so we had breakfast in the hotel each morning - "It was exellent"
We stayed in a garden view room - which was only standard - but i dont think it was good enough for the price we paid. Our room view was of trees and that was it - we could not see the sea at all and there was loads for ants in our room.
I had rang the hotel in advance to make sure we got one of the suites with a sea view, but this was not done. It would have been okay if it had been a normal holiday, but we were on our honeymoon. (We were looking for something extra special but we did not get it in our room)
We spoke to one of the managers "Stella" and she could not do anything for us as all the rooms had been booked up. (This was a big disapointment)
Overall the hotel itself was fab - but we were completly dispointed with our accomodation.
