Liked what I had read about this property and discounted the negatives. Location was perfect for me, about 10 mins walk from the harbour and on the edge of downtown Paphos and near a bus route. I arrived very late and was slightly disappointed to be given a room which seemed to overlook a block of flats but when I got up in the morning found a jacaranda tree and cascades of bougainvillea outside my balcony and it was dead quiet, just the cooing of ring necked doves so I stayed put. I suspect rooms overlooking the two pools might be quite noisy as there was music at night.
Rooms previously quoted as tired but mine had been refurbished with new flooring, new bathroom with a good shower over the bath and a new aircon. Furniture was awaiting installation but I was quite happy with what was there. The largish room was kept spotless and bedlinen changed every other day. The water cooler in the room was invaluable.
Food was too British for my taste but I understand why they do this. One night a week is Cyprus food. Plenty of it and well cooked. Delicious green salads all locally grown always on offer and home made sorbets always available. Fabulous breakfasts with at least 6 different fresh fruits every day eg watermelon, plums, apricots, oranges etc, delicious Greek yoghurt and a pot of honey as well as the usual bacon, egg, toast and coffee. Really no need for lunch after fuelling up in the morning.
Two swimming pools and loads of sun loungers on various levels meant nobody had to go without.
Best of all was the terrific home from home feel that you only get in a family run hotel. It shows. For a single, older, woman traveller this was so appreciated. The entire staff were delightful. I cannot fault one of them and all seemed genuinely concerned that your needs were met and that you were enjoying yourself. You cannot buy this attitude no doubt installed by the patron, Papa George.
I enjoy independent exploration and found the Paphos bus service somewhat limiting but the town is great and the people are so friendly. Went for a walk before bed every night and was perfectly safe, then another early in the morning before breakfast when you can get more of a local feel for the place. Just delightful.
If I return to Paphos, I would not consider staying anywhere other than the Nereus. No photos as I stopped travelling with a camera years ago.
