Just got back from a 2 week stay at this hotel, i must agree with previous reviews that the rooms are small (but how much time do you spend in there anyway?), and slighty shabby. but what it lacked in one place it made up for in another the staff were excellent really friendly from the owner downwards and the food was fabulous, the hotel was looking a bit tired but it is to be refurbished this time next year. we had a fantastic time with not a screaming child in sight. The thing that spoilt it for us was the ticket touts on the harbour with the pathetic way of speaking like they are some kind of long lost pal with a pathetic cockney accent. We had a brilliant time and the hotel doesn't pretend to be anything its not

We had a two week stay at the Nereus at the beginning of October 2006. Our twin room was exceptionally small and not at all comfortable. The staff were very good , cheap but friendly labour in the form of Bulgarian students who were employed as bar and waiting staff. Cheap labour is now the order of the day in Paphos, and many of the locals are extremely upset and have been losing their own jobs because of the greed of the hotel owners.

This was our seventh visit to Cyprus and our sixth to Paphos, this rated amongst the worst accommodation we have had in the resort, although clean not much more could be said about our tiny room. Very down market compared with last year's stay at the Anemi Hotel which is not too far away.

We visited Paphos twice last year and 12 months down the line we couldn't believe the prices, for a pub style meal 7.95cy pound (just under £10.00) bought a 3 course meal that amounted to not much more than a small sample of each course.
The only meal we found that offered reasonable value was a Thompsons Fish and Chip Restaurant just under 8 pounds Cypriot bought a substantial meal for the two of us, including a free pot of tea.

The Nereus has a reasonable location and the Harbour area is just a short walk away, this has always been one of our favourite places but not this time, we were constantly pounced on by TIME SHARE touts, very much like Tenerife used to be, we couldn't walk ten yards in the Harbour area without being accosted.

CONCLUSION:
Unless you use the Self Catering accommodation at the Nereus, forget it!

Be prepared to be ripped off if you eat out and don't rely on the Hotel food it isn't that good and you will still be paying around £9.00 a head for school dinner type meals.

We will not be visiting our beloved Cyprus again, Kato Paphos(tourist area) has been totally spoilt by over building, the remaining open space, Lighthouse Beach is about to be built on.
What used to be an attractive resort with a quaint harbour has turned into an Urban Sprawl !!

Cyprus is far too expensive, we will be looking elsewhere next year.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Nereus Hotel being our first visit to Cyprus. There was four of us, myself, my husband & 2 teenage children.
The hotel itself is basic & not very modern but what it lacked in decor it more than made up for in hospitality & friendliness. All the staff were good humoured & helpful.
We stayed half board & could not fault the food. Always plenty of it & a good variety thru the week. The bar prices were very reasonable too, especially during happy hour when all cocktails were only 1cyp.
The location was great. Short walk to the tourist area & harbour which was lovely. Bar street only round the corner but we never heard any noise from there. Probably more noisy in summertime. It was only a 20 minute walk to the Tombs of The Kings.
We had a great time here & would recommend it so long as you can look past the decor & enjoy the welcome you'll receive. My husband & I will be returning next year.

“Ideal Location”

Nereus Hotel

I am a travel agent and had this hotel recommended to me from my in-laws. The location of the hotel is ideal, 2 minute walk from bar street and 5 minutes from the sea. I booked the hotel through Somewhere2stay and booked a twin room.

When we checked in, we were upgraded to a 2 bedrrom apartment, which for 2 of us to share was huge. The only drawback, is the apartment was accross the road. The apartments are basic but very clean. Our air conditioning was at no charge and was only £5cyp for a safety deposit. I recommend if you stay here you take advantage of the water cooler in your room. A 20 litre bottle of mineral water cost us £5cyp.

Before I booked the hotel, I checked the website. The pools looked lovely. When we got to the hotel, the pool looked nothing like what was on the website, they were nice, but not as nice. We asked if there was another pool, but was told no. Now that we are home, I have discovered there is another pool in the back of the complex which is much nicer.

We only stayed bed and breakfast. he breakfast was nice, lots of fresh fruit, full english, bread and cheeses, a bit of everything. We didn't have a meal at the hotel as the menu didn't look great. there are some lovely restaurants nearby. Grazi is a lovely Italian, The Almond Tree (next door to hotel) is nice too. There's one called Mandra just off Bar Street, fab for steak. I strongly DO NOT recommend the Petit Palace, next door to Grazi, the food was overcooked , overpriced and when I complained, the chef was rude.
This was our first trip to Paphos, and we are looking now to return in March. We would stay at the Nereus again.

the hotel rooms needed revamp having used one as late check out room ,self catering acco no problem this is sittuated at the back of hotel, pool area very nice, staff at hotel friendly and helpfull didn`t eat at hotel or use bar much, outside hotel plenty of bars & resturants prices on par with england, plenty of shops around paphos only problem i found there isn`t any beaches nearby ,best beach at coral bay that is about 10 min drive away, but nothing special troodos mountains trip good day out also baths of aphroditie abit off the beaten track but avery nice lagoon with waterfalls, this is the closest to paphos and the only one big enough too swim in, there are a few others only big enough for a paddle not worth the journey ,we hired a jeep for a week was cheaper than paying for seperate trips, we got map from hotel, marked all the places too visit and made our own way, would reccomend using tour companies if u dont like, some off road driving, driving in cyprus no prblem same as uk weather at end of aug perfect ,we stayed 2 weeks 1week by the pool 1 exploring, would return to paphos and nereus for a good base for a self catering holiday staying by the pool & enjoying food & drink ,steak bar outside hotel pappas part of hotel very nice & friendly no problems with noise from surrounding bars or other guests, but this time off year is a bit quiter can`t comment on peak season, final comment a friendly clean hotel and would return
