“Good Hotel, great resort”

Paphos Gardens Holiday Resort

First time at this resort, second time to Cyprus.

We arrived late in the evening 10pm after a short taxi ride from the airport (around 30 minutes), when leaving the taxi we incountered our first surprise, we had already pre-booked and paid for our taxi online via expedia and the taxi driver asked for a tip, he was very ubrupt in his manner of asking and almost demanded that we paid, as the smallest cash we had on us was 10 euro note we had to part with this..... not a great start!

Following this we were greated by the recpetion staff who were extremely friendly (almost overly) and the porter. Upon checking in we were shown to our appartment (we were self catering). Whilst being shown to our room we were not to sure what to make of the resort as it was dark however we were a little hesitant to it's quality. Once in the appartment (azalea 205) we were extremely pleased, everything was extremely clean and suitable for our needs.

The next morning was our first chance to see the resort in day light, and we were pleasantly surprised! We had misjudged the hotel and appartments the evening before in the dark. Appartment blocks were all clean and looked great with all the bright flowers and palm trees etc.

The hotel resort has two pools the main one infront of the hotel and the one by the appartments. We spent the majority of our time by the "Oasis pool" (by the appartments). We chose this pool as it was alot quieter and there seemed to be less screaming children!

Pool bar was quite expensive and the service wasnt great but good enough. Supermarket really good! Had everything you could want for self catering and the manager there was a top guy!

Even though we had chosen to self catering we only ever had lunch at the appartment and ate out dinner out every night in Paphos.

Easy walk to the waterfront (10 minutes), but we found we had to dodge the persistent restaurant waitors, almost demanding our custom on our way into the town.

Number of superb restaurants to choose from the best two being the Chloe's no1 chinese restaurant or Gourmet Tavern, these were two that stood out but every restaurant we ate at was great.

If you dont want to be bombarded by young touts trying to get you into their bars and clubs avoid bar street at all costs! We walked down this street once and past each bar were hastled with questions asking where we were going that evening.

Weather was amazing don't think we saw a single cloud all week! Also the local beach was really good, the bar there was expensive but really great friendly service!

Overall a really good holiday it can be as quiet or lively as you wish it to be.

Hotel/Appartments rating - 7/10
Paphos rating - 8/10

Well just arrived back from Cyprus a few days ago. This was my first holiday in three years and also the first holiday with my boyfriend. We had an excellent time! We stayed in the hotel and had a pool view, the room was basic but clean and tidy and the maids came round everyday. I had read a few reviews the week before i went that made the hotel and pool area sound awful and made me really not want to go, i was very plesantly surprised to find that the things said in previous reviews, i found, were blown well out of the water!!! The pool area is lovely and there is always waitors walking around checking to see if you would like anything, the entertainment Animation team were excellent, we dont have any kids but if we did they would have a ball! There was also lots of entertainment for the adults and they guys were fantastic! Entertainment at night is also good, it is repeated each week but some of the things you would want to see twice (Hypnotist).

We stayed on a Bed and breakfast basis, didnt go to breakfast too often as was slightly disappointed in this. Not much choice had toast most mornings! Didnt have dinner at the hotel but there are lots of nice places to eat. One thing i would say is that eating out we found to be quite expensive. Za Zas which is round the corner is lovely and also down at the seafront the Seagul restaurant does a great steak!! Avoid the Colloseum which is just round from the hotel as it was mingin and they dont even offer u money off! One place that is a must is Chloes chinese restaurant again on the sea front, it is absolutly gorgeous all the staff are fantastic and it is well priced!

We hired a car for the two weeks to do a bit of sightseeing. Coral beach is gorgeous and the Paphos water park is fantastic. it is a bit expensive (28euro each) but it was well worth it!!! I would say renting the car is a must to be able to see the local area, and the hotel is slightly out of the main buzz so if u dont want a big walk u can just nip down in the car !!

Overall we both had an amazing holiday, the hotel is fab, area is fab, would defo go back!! I have to say dont listen to bad reviews too much because it put me off going my holiday and it turned out everything was perfect!

HOTEL:
Good service on arrival. Allocated room 224. Clean, tidy, air conditioning included. Yes it is a bit dated but was cleaned everyday and was always left in a good condition.
Bathroom shower was tempermental as the water pressure is so low but once we got the hang of it, managed to have a decent shower every night.
Very quiet and comfy.
Swimming pool lovely - really pleasant. You will need to put your towels down on a bed if you want one before 11am or you won't be able to get one.
Food - we were BnB - good selection. Cats are around during this time but if like me, you like them, they won;t bother you.
Downside - bar is expensive, entertainment team are pretty lame during the day (we went out every night). Rooms need a fridge and the safety deposit box needs to be inc in the price rather than as an extra. Internet costs 6e for an hour, you cannot have it for a shorter period.

EATING OUT - we ate out every night and in order of preference;
1)Gourmet Tavern, opposite the roundabout by the harbour - a bit more expensive but well worth it - you need to book!
2) Colosseum 2 - just round the corner from the hotel, best set menu we came across, 3 courses, huge portions for 15e per person - very very nice
3) Neraida Fish Restaurant - set menu was pretty nice (17.50e per person) but not as impressive (end of the road by the hotel, right on the front)
4)Viva La Cyrpus - pretty average (main road leading to Bar Street)
5) Le Place Royale - our least favourite (down towards the harbour)
and Solomons for lunch (end of the road and turn left)

NIGHT LIFE
we did go up Bar Street and went to the felix, Bubbles, The Keg etc - quite expensive if you don't do the 2 4 1 offer on cocktails. ALso there was a fight in Bubbles, some woman hit a member of bar staff and her male friends joined in - ended up with the bar staff giving these lads a shoeing outside - kind of put you off

We then found a great bar called The PLayer which is behind Macdonalds on the harbour - excellent little place and VERY CHEAP - love it

EXPLORING
the buses are fantastic! The no15 takes you to coral bay (pretty but not much to do - i would advise getting off in the main road of restaurants and walking down to the beach rather than getting off at the beach as other than the beach and a couple of bars, nothing to do!) the 15 also takes you to tomb of the kings which is great - get off at KFC, just past Fat Mama's on your left - all for a flat fare od £1.35euro per person

no 10 takes you to Paphos town - market a bit tat for me but the town itself is lovely

Mosaics are in the world heritage building on the harbour and well worth a look

DOWN SIDES

WATCH OUT FOR TOUTS!!!!
If anyone offers you a scratchcard for a hotel company called Lion Resorts WALK AWAY. Do not even entertain the idea - this is a type of timeshare - this is on the site of the new Amphora Hotel and is away from the bar street area

also watch out for them by the harbour!!!

DON'T DO IT!!

WEATHER

absolutly beautiful - so so so hot!!!
