Just back from 2 wks at this hotel and there aren't enough superlatives to describe our holiday ... ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ! We were all inclusive and booked a superior rm (446). Wow, where do we start .... from the second we arrived, greeted enthusiastically by the manager & Nicoletta (what an asset she is to the hotel) and after a lovely welcome/intro, we were in our room with a view to die for - sea view + sunsets were such a dream :-). The beach side grassy area was perfect for us - nice breeze, plenty of loungers, beautiful azure sea to cool off in, ambient music drifting in from the hotel beachside taverna (Amalthea). The pool was fantastic, maintained/cleaned daily by some very hard-working staff. As you can't hog poolside beds until 8am, we had some fun each morning watching the SunbedStalwarts who'd be down there guarding their favourite poolside beds from 6:30am every day without fail - not moving until the 8am exodus deadline signalled they were safe to evacuate their betowelled fiefdom & migrate to the breakfast hall. For anyone worrying there aren't enough poolside beds - there's tons of them (!) set just slightly back from the pool on some lovely grassy areas - so you'll never want for a space to lay your sun-drenched head. The hotel staff were the friendliest we've ever come across - couldn't do enough for you ... so so friendly/attentive, they ALL made such a genuine effort to make sure our holiday was perfect in every way. Ashamed to say we can't remember the name of the woman serving from the poolside bar - but she's got a wicked sense of humour & always made us laugh, as did all the poolside bar staff working so hard to make sure we didn't go thirsty ! Same again with the lobby bar, they were again fantastic - but the one that stands out is NICOLETTA - what an asset she is to Atlantica - when she spots you (and she never misses) - she lights up with such a genuine welcome and so much happy energy - hopefully Atlantica have already recognised her great potential and will invest in her as she is definitely one for management level + beyond ! Room cleaning girls - probably rarely get a mention but the ones who looked after our room never missed a beat - our room was kept spotless and they missed nothing - one day our shower hose stopped working properly (kept sliding down the riser) but we said nothing + just used a plastic bottle to keep it in place. The very next day, a new shower holder had been installed ! Now that's what we call service - before you even get a chance to report a fault - its magically fixed ! If you need to buy any bits/bobs, the hotel shop is very good - prices pretty much comparable with anywhere else ... and take the time to stop & chat to Lakis (he runs the shop), he has a wonderful philosophy on life - good for the soul :-). Onto food - for us, we wanted for nothing - beautifully cooked dishes & such a variety (some meats we found salty but we find that's often the case across Mediterranean resorts). Fresh OJ every morning, full English breakfast (fattening but so tasty) - there were lots of healthier options but ashamed to say we hit the full English breakfast almost every morning ! Lunch & evening meals - again such a choice of tasty dishes. We tried to avoid the gorgeous looking desserts but by the 2nd week we gave in - and they were absolutely divine ! – now got a lot of work to do to lose that extra poundage we've gained over the last 2 weeks ! Again, the restaurant Managers/Chefs/Staff all so professional, friendly and helpful – they all made sure our taste buds were well catered for :-).
While we didn’t see every show every night, those that we did see were excellent - exceptional shows/singers from operatic to soul to Elvis to pop .... and plenty of additional entertainment from Tony and Becky who are first-rate ... they work so hard day + night to make sure everyone’s having a good time - they're the best holiday reps we've ever come across ! Same goes for resort rep Chris who knows everything there is to know about Cyprus !
Finally, for those days we spent around the hotel, we stayed mainly down at the beachside and loved it - peaceful, tranquil, snorkelling & floating about in the sea (with beachball-sized tums!). Found the few Russians around us a bit miserable and starey despite trying to be friendly with them but hey-ho, each to their own.
Atlantica - just a few recommendations (though absolutely nothing spoilt our holiday !)
(1) Suggest a few more clearer signs up around the beachside hotel area (especially by the new steps down to the beach) - as we found non-residents using the beds regularly and although this didn't bother us at all (as there's so many beds), when they had noisy kids with them, it didn't bode well with us. I imagine it might get worse as the season hots up so you may want to look into this.
(2) Although we love cats, the smell of cat urine is pretty bad/strong around the outside of the restaurant area, which seeps inside the restaurant too (to the right as you go in the main door). That swaggering territorial Ginger Tom is the spraying culprit we think, so if you have his little bits snipped, you'll find this will probably cure the problem.
(3) a few plastic chairs, around for the beachside area + pool, while not essential, would be an extra "nice-to-have".
(4) With AI wristbands, it was a bit of a pain having to give our room number & sign for everything - not something we've come across before with other AI hotels ?
Thanks to everyone at Atlantica for giving us the best holiday we've had in a very long time and can't wait to get back to your hotel next year !! Sorry to those we haven’t mentioned by name, we were so chilled-out by this holiday that our brains/memory literally switched off for the 2 weeks we were there – which was exactly what we wanted & needed !
PS: Just read one review complaining about this hotel/entertainment. We've stayed at many high-end hotels/resorts around the world (Geneva Noga Hilton, Courchevel Les Ducs De Savoie,Bellecote, LV Luxor, Hochgurgl Riml) and have to say, for the price, I can't believe why anyone could fault anything about this hotel (and we've never been to Butlins!). I guess some people are just never happy/satisfied ? Tony - don't you ever retire, you're gorgeous, great sense of humour - just keep up the fantastic entertainment !
