I stayed at this hotel with my partner 28th June - 5th July 2008 on an All Inclusive Basis. We upgraded at the time of booking to a Superior room.
Having been on many All Inclusive holidays, and upgraded to superior rooms in the past, I have to say that we were disappointed on arriving in our room to find that the superior room was anything but! It would marginally pass as a standard room in a 3 star hotel. What you get for upgrading is a sea view (this was the only nice thing about it), with cushions on the balcony furniture, dressing gowns and slippers, a bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine on arrival (bearing in mind you can get this at any time free, as it is all inclusive!) and a canopy over the bed. Don't waste your money on upgrading!
If you wish to book your holiday at this hotel, I would recommend that you ask to stay in the modernised part of the hotel - some of the rooms have been updated, and are very nice. We were not fortunate enough to get these rooms.
On the plus side, the hotel staff are very nice - friendly and helpful. The rooms are cleaned daily. Pool towels are provided, and can be changed each day.
Be aware that the hotel has a policy of no towels to be put out on the sunbeds in the morning to reserve beds. If towels are out and no-one is sat on them, then they are removed. When we arrived, the policy was no towels before 10am, but after a revolt from everyone, this was changed to 8.15am. Towels were removed by the staff without hesitation - around the pool, and on the grass and beach.
Talking of the beach, there isn't really much of a beach - a bit of shingle - you will need to wear your shoes to get to the water, but you can swim in the sea after getting through the shingle.
Now onto the all inclusive - in my experience, all inclusive means exactly that - everything is included. However, if you want to use the safe in the room, you have to pay 17 euros per week! Unbelievable! Also, if you want drinks after midnight, you also have to pay for these!!
Breakfast is good - buffet style - bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, fried egg, fried bread, beans, tomato, potatoes, bread rolls, toast, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, omelettes made to order, pancakes.
Lunch is unimpressive - a bit of a salad choice, 3 or 4 main courses, most of which appeared to be remnants of the previous nights dinner, frozen boiled vegetables, chips, rice. Lunch is served in the taverna - the same place where the hot snacks are served.
Dinner - not too bad. Please note, dinner is formal wear, so men need to wear long trousers. Great salad bar, 4 or 5 main course choices, dessert of fruit, ice cream, cakes.
Snacks - cold "snacks" available all day from the bar - this comprised of a choice of 3 rolls, ready made in a chilled cabinet in the bar. Hot snacks available from the taverna 2.30pm - 5pm.
Choose from a menu - toasted sandwich, burger & chips, omelette & chips, etc etc. They are very strict about the times for the hot snacks - i.e. we didn't like what was on for lunch one day, and it was about 2pm, and we asked if we could have a hot snack instead from the snack menu. We were told that we could not have it as part of the all inclusive until 2.30pm, and if we wanted it then, we would have to pay for it! Madness! There were people there on half board and they were making snacks for them & charging them, so it wasnt like we were asking them to do something that they wouldn't normally do!
Entertainment - absolutely awful. Considering that this hotel is a Thomson Gold hotel, i.e. no children, the entertainment seemed to be aimed at 9 year olds. If I heard the Birdie Song once, I heard it half a dozen times!!
No disrespect, but the entertainment staff need to be relocated to Butlins in the Kids Club. Annoying at best, and insisted on singing most nights. They obviously believed they could sing well, but it was painful and embarrassing. From the "superior rooms", there was no hideaway from the entertainment, as even the airconditioning did not drown it out. There was no chance of an early night, as the racket from the entertainment was so loud, it sounded like they were in the room! Thank god for earplugs!!
That reminds me of another plus point - the airconditioning is fantastic - 3 settings of low, medium or high, with temperature control - on high, it instantly cooled us down, and we left it on low throughout the night - perfect.
The waiters and waitresses around the poolside were brilliant, and the majority of the waiters/waitresses in the restaurant were also great. However, the waiters in the taverna for lunch and snacks were terrible. They took ages to come and take our order, and then when ordered, ages to bring drinks, and I don't think they believed in smiling.
All in all, I can honestly say I was looking forward to coming home, and having spoken to many people there, they all felt the same. One couple had another week to go, and they were really upset at having to stay there for a further week! I have never wanted to come home from holiday, I have always been upset, but on this holiday, I was excited the night before leaving.
This holiday was absolutely not value for money, and was the least enjoyable holiday I have ever had, and I have been on plenty.
I would just like to add that a couple that we got speaking to were staying at the hotel on their honeymoon, and they were treated terribly. They booked their honeymoon over a year ago, and were told by the Thomson agent that they would be given a good room as they were booking so early and because it was their honeymoon. They arrived in their room, only to be in a standard room overlooking a building site with single beds!! Obviously upset, they complained, and after a lot of hassle and not until the following day, they were eventually moved, but still to a standard room, overlooking the pool. There were people staying at the hotel who had the lovely refurbished rooms with a bit of a garden, who had not requested those rooms, and had not paid any more money to be in them. Surely the honeymoon couple should have been upgraded to one of the refurbished rooms!
We knew before we went that this would not be a lively place, and we were happy with that. If you are looking for somewhere with plenty to do, then this is not for you. There are no watersports, nowhere to go within walking distance, and nothing to do other than watch the laborious entertainment in the hotel.
To sum up, I think that this hotel should be a 3+ star hotel, and I think that they need to revisit the entertainment, and make it suitable for the age and type of holiday makers. The food could be improved, particularly the lunch and snacks. The safe in the room should be included, and drinks should be free at any time.
The hotel rooms could do with an overhaul - starting with the "superior" rooms.
Needless to say, I won't be returning or recommending this hotel.
