Before I left for my holiday I read reviews on this site and was a little anxious about what I had booked - I didn't need to be!

This hotel is ideally located on a main road in Pafos opposite the Tombs of The Kings (a very popular tourist site). It is on the main bus route into the centre and down to the harbour and is well within walking distance of the main bar street (20/25 mins tops, 10 Euros in a taxi)

As soon as you walk into the hotel you are met with a lovely lobby/bar area and staff are more than gracious.

I went with my partner and we were both more than impressed with the room. We had asked for an inland view as it was cheaper but we had a lovely view of the pool area and could see the sea from our balcony. The room was really comfortable and we had no problems with any of the decor or air con or anything from previous reviews. There was a satellite TV with BBC Prime and News channels as well as other greek and german stations (one showed english films with greek subtitles - ideal for a night in if you've had too much sun!)
We kept our air con on all the time by taking the fob from our key and leaving it in the slot in the room - recommended.

As for the pool, I thought it was lovely. Yes, there are a LOT of cats in Cyprus but no one was bothered by any around the pool and I for one could not smell urine from them. The staff organise pool polo for the guests and play a variety of music throughout the day (Boney M can get a little repetitive though!haha)

Overall I had a fantastic time in Cyprus and would REALLY recommend it and a stay in this hotel.

I would strongly recommend hiring a car (there are hire companies in abundance!) an get out to visit ayia napa and other towns in Southern Cyrpus. We hired a convertible and driving back as the sun set with the roof down was very romantic. Having the roof down in the day is not such a good idea as you will get burnt!

Me and my partners stayed in this hotel at the beginning of July. We had a fantastic week. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly. The service was good and the food was excellent. The rooms were guite basic and probably not upto 4 star standards, however they were clean. We had a cleaner every day. The towels were changed every day and the bed lined was change twice a week. The pool area was lovely, plenty of sun loungers. We both enjoyed our stay and would both go back again.

“Rip-off”

The food, accomodation was O.K. although somewhat dated. What we really did object to was the way the bar staff tried to rip us off at every opportunity. Charging for drinks we did not receive, giving us the local hooch when we had paid for top brands, not taking vouchers for drinks and pretending not to understand when questioned. After the first day when I cottoned on to what they were up to I refused to allow them to charge to the room but when I checked with reception I found we were still being charged. I must say the reception staff were very helpful in sorting it out.

“the hotel was fine”

Brilliant hotel, cant fault it one bit.

good location, not on the beach but they dont claim to be as some other hotel
we went to once in spain, the pool is definately the hotels selling point,
we invited some friends over that live in paphos permanently and they never though that the hotel could have such a nice pool area.

The rooms were well maintained, aircon worked fab, a few english channels, bbc prime some english speaking sports channels as well,

the food was excellent and well done to the chef, absolutely fabulous every night.
some nights of good entertainment as well, we enjoyed the fire show and the cyprus dancing night, they do the bingo and the karaoke as well but we dont really care about that and we are not the kind of people to stay in the hotel all the time.

Paphos is a wonderful place, and it is worth visiting.

“Very Basic. Not a 4* hotel !!!”

Avlida Hotel

1 Jul 2008

Me and my partner stayed at the Avlida Hotel for a week on a BB basis. Please be warned...........

The first thing you need to know is not to expect a 4 star hotel as advertised. At best this is a low 3 star . The food was terrible, lucky for us we were on a B&B basis.

The rooms warrant more like 2 star hotels accomodation, old fashioned, peeling wallpaper, mould on grout in bathroom, Air Conditioning trickles out of system best to keep balcony door open instead to keep cool!!

The top pool wasn't working at all during our stay, was only half full all the time. Bottom pool better but there is a faint smell of cat urine (due to the 8 cats we saw hanging around the pool area)

The beach across the road is not a sunbather’s beach; its more like a waste land and access is via the Venus Beach hotel.

Positive notes ............

Location is great for Restaurants and bars (5Minute walk), highly recommend Oliveto for dinner.
Hotel is a 20 Minute walk to the Harbour which has some lovely Fish Restaurants.
If you fancy a "English" night out then head to bar street (25min walk/10min Taxi ride) and head to Robin Hood bar, say hi to chris the bar man (makes a great Mojito).

For beach head to Coral Bay (catch no.15 bus from opposite hotel) takes 15 mins to get there but its worth the trip to relax on this lovely beach. It offers plenty of fun water sports and comfy sun loungers for all you sun worshippers!!! :)

Another Place to visit is the Waterpark in Pahos Town (no. 15 bus from outside hotel) It costs 28 Euros for the day and is well worth it as it is a fun day out (also great to celeb spot ... met Anthony Costa from boyband Blue).

All in all, hotel was a bit of a let down but not really a problem if your are going B&B and like us plan on doing plenty on your holiday.

Cyprus is a lovely island and has a lot to offer :))
