We have just returned from a week at the Athena Royal Beach Hotel and yes I was here! ( ive read some reviews where people have mentioned " are you sure you stayed here!!!").
The location is very good about 15 mins to the harbour.
The hotel in general is very clean, except we didn’t have our bin cleaned once when it was full to the brim. The service at breakfast was ok, the manager and chef gave a smile but the waiter / ress' never seemed happy. The food was very average and my fiancée had to bring her own milk and cereal to breakfast as the milk there was hot and wasn’t fresh in our opinion and the cereal was stale.
Lunch was near the pool and the food was again average, we had to wait sometimes nearly 6-7 mins to be served which I think it quite a long time (other people also had this problem). It was also expensive, the places outside the hotel were much cheaper. The service from the duty manager wasn’t good, our safe wasn’t working and he came up to fix it..but it seemed a real effort and he was abrupt.
The room was quite small and we had to move from the first one as it felt like being in a prison! The room they moved us to was better and had a good view of the sea. The bathroom was small, but the bed was very comfortable.
The pool are was excellent though with a nice view of the sea, there was always enough beds to go round and very quiet. I think they could of had people come round offering drinks, but this happened once and the waiter didn’t bother coming up to us!
We got recommended by Danielle the receptionist to a very good restaurant.( she was always friendly)
The hotel is also catered for the "older" cliental 50 year plus, and the entertainment was again ok.
all in all I don’t think this hotel is a four star and I don’t think we would stay here again ,unless it was much cheaper.
