I stayed at this hotel in March for 5 nights with my boyfriend. I booked it through a website without having read any previous reviews then i came on to this website and heard all the reviews about the noise etc etc..and thought oh no are we not going to get any sleep and so on. Anyway we went with total open minds and being fairly laid back people we werent too worried.
The result was that we had a brilliant 5 nights in a wonderful city and came home with memories to treasure. What a great city and everywhere so accessible. We walked everywhere without any trouble at all.
When we checked in to the hotel we were told we were being given an upgrade as we were staying for 5 nights and were given a nice quiet room at the back. The only prob i would say with the hotel was the bells from the church that woke us at 7am on sun morning continually but hey you are in a city centre so you have to expect noise, and the fact that we were given only 1 pillow each and only a tiny thin duvet! (not a prob in the summer) Other reviews seem to concentrate on the noise, which we found no prob. A point to make is that i believe the pillows were made from feathers and i awoke every morning with very swollen eyes! Ask for more pillows and anti-allergy ones if you suffer this way.
The staff were brilliant and so accommodating. Knowledgeable about where to go, where to eat, what bus to catch etc. Def must is to buy the bus pass.
Our hightlights were the trip up untersberg mountain (made more special by the snow and soup and gluwein we had at the top..but beware anyone with a fear of heights as the cable car freaked us both out a bit as its a very steep climb and we had a woman in ours having a complete panic attack! which didnt help)
We took the snow shuttle bus (think ends in April though) to Zell AM See and had one of the best days. We didnt ski but still took all the cable cars up to the top and enjoyed the breathtaking views whilst having a beer. A wonderful memory.
A restaurant must is zum am fielden (think i may have this name wrong but cant find the card i took from there..will have a search..but the sign outside has a monkey on it) Located in the new town, the food was outstanding witha great atmosphere and was very difficult to get a table there. We ate there a few times and was the best food we tasted in Salzburg.
all in all a great hotel with wonderful staff especially the red haired lady in the restuarant whose name i have forgotten. A truly wondeful stay!
