Enjoyed a two day 'Advent Break' at this hotel at the beginning of December. This hotel is classed as 5 star and the price was €345 for two nights B&B plus dinner on one night. The hotel is very well positioned for access to the old town which is only a short 3 minute walk over the river. We booked a Standard room but were delighted to have been upgraded to a Superior room at the front of the hotel overlooking the market square and giving a fine view of several notable buildings including the castle.
The room was spacious and very well appointed with nice decor and well serviced. Breakfasts had a wide choice of foods with plenty of waiting staff to give prompt service. The inclusive dinner taken was exceptionally good. 4 courses of well varied choices, all beautifully cooked and presented. Wine was additional and though hesistant to choose local wines given Austria's past reputation for mixing anti-freeze with white wine we risked the local Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot(Fischer) and were delighted with our choices.
The hotel reception staff were very helpful both on arrival and departure (organising our left luggage and taxi to the airport -only 15 mins away)
Would be very happy to stay here again but this is unlikely as Salzburg really only has enough to interest the tourist for about a day and a half unless one is a dedicated fan of Mozart.

An excellent hotel in a central position, I would readily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting either on business or pleasure.
Liked:
1. Picturesque location in square
2. Large, comfortable room with good standard of furnishings - everything in pristine order.
3. Friendly, helpful front desk staff
4. Good food in restaurant (we sampled both breakfast and dinner) with attentive staff.
Disliked:-
1. Nothing - we went in December and there was no snow - but is that the hotel's fault??

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at this hotel, don't really know where to start. We flew with ryanair and arrived at the hotel just after 10am, our room was ready and wow what a room. We had e.mailed before arriving explaining that we had an early flight, and that we were celebrating our anniversary. They upgraded us to a room over looking the old town, the views were fantastic. The staff were all so friendly, and helpful, as well as knowledgable. The breakfast was really very good, set us up for the day, all we needed in the afternoon was a coffee and apple strudel. The hotel is a 5 min walk over a bridge to the old town, with all its charm, and places to eat and drink, (try and eat at the wilder mann, and stern brau both off the main shopping area), you are also just 5 min walk from the tour buses, a must to do is the sound of music tour, but DON'T buy the 40th anniversary DVD there, as they want 49euros, I managed to get it on the internet for £11.90. Back to this fanrtastic hotel the room was very large with beautiful decor, the marble bathroom was enormous with 2 wash basins, a very large bath, a walk in shower, when we asked for towel robed they arrived within minutes. The only thing missing was a clock in the room, and that Salzburg has many churches that strike the hour 1/4 1/2 and 1/4 to, they don't strick during the night ,but they start again at 06.00 and its your wake up call. Would definatly go back, towards the end of November next time so we can see The Xmas Markets that opened the weekend after we left.

“Fabulous”

Hotel bristol - what a great great hotel. I required a mushroom omelette and the OWNER went out and purchased the mushrooms!!! The rooms were fabulous, the service excellent, nothing we required was beyond the staff. For a great holiday Salzburg is great, provided you do not go with Great Rail Jourmeys. This hotel deserves every star available, for cleanliness, service, food and altogether a most marvellous hotel

Where to start - the Bristol Hotel is just perfect! The location is wonderful - just a short walk over the foot bridge to the Old Town and the terrific Getriedegasse shopping area (just a note for future travelers the Getriedegasse area is open until about 7 p.m. and is closed on Sunday). The Bristol Hotel is a grand old hotel with really classy features. Our room was beautiful and enormous and the bathroom was also roomy and looked brand new. The front desk staff is wonderful and Ricky in the Bar is one of the nicest people we have met on all our trips through Europe. He is a real asset to the hotel. The buffet breakfast is excellent and the Crystal Room where it is served is absolutely beautiful - what a great way to start the day. The hotel is immaculately clean and it was definitely a real pleasure to get back to our room at the end of the day. The owner is present and she is charming and always looking to make sure everything is fine for everyone. This hotel is just the absolute best - We won't stay anywhere else if we return to Salzburg and we hope we will. Just can't say enough good things about our experience at the Bristol!!

As a side note, be sure to try the hot chocolate at Demels in the Old Town. I think it is the best hot chocolate I've had anywhere and that includes Paris! Also definitely stop and have the "Original Sacher Torte" - absolutely delicious!
