Just spent a lovely couple of nights in Salzburg and the Hotel Stadtkrug. It's location is perfect, right in the heart of the city and walking distance to all the attractions. It has a really warm welcoming feel when you walk in off the street. Quite quirky style inside but lovely. We found the staff both on reception and in the breakfast room really nice and helpful. We booked a twin bedded comfort room, which is a step up from an ordinary double, not sure what the difference was. The room was clean and light, relatively basic but the bathroom was much larger than you usually get in hotels, very modern and with underfloor heating. No bath in it which wasn't an issue for me but might be for some people. The breakfast was excellent too, very large range of choice.
We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but the one opposite was excellent and i would reccommend you walk up the lane at the back of the hotel to the capuchin monastry - but then carry on up the hill through the wood till you get to the top and frankisshloss (excuse the spelling), glorious views from its outdoor cafe and excellent home made damsen cake!

brilliant hotel, staff very friendly, rooms clean and large, food in restaurant excellent. Couldn't fault it would stay here again.

Last fall, we extended my business trip to Budapest into a family vacation in Europe. After staying in a large, modern, business hotel, we could not have been more pleased with this small hotel that exudes local character. Our room was comfortable and easily large enough for the three of us (though I understand some other rooms are quite small). The owners and staff could not have been any more accomodating - especially to my young daughter. The roof top restaurant is quite nice as well.

Note that this is a very old building with some "quirks" and being family run I would characterize the service as "enthusiastic" rather than "professional". But if you are of the right frame of mind, it only adds to the ambiance.

We will definately return to the Stadkrug some day.
