Stayed here for a week, leading up to the Mozart festival. Firstly, as others have mentioned - this is not a 4* hotel - the bed/bath rooms are of a good size and well cleaned, however are basic. There is no mini-bar/air con etc and the 'satellite' tv consists of 30 German channels and CNN. HOWEVER - the hotel staff are great, the location is superb, the breakfast buffet provides a good choice and the restaurant food is of a high standard and reasonably priced, plus they brew their own beer (Keller bier) which is lovely! Can't stress the location enough, 2-3 minutes walk from the old town, the fort, the palace etc etc. Highly recomended!

Hotel in a great location in the city centre.
I booked a single room which was fairly basic, not really 4 star but clean and a good size for a single. The bathroom was clean and modern.
A good buffet breakfast was offered with the usual selection of breads, fruit, cereal, cheese, yogurt, etc and a small hot selection.
The staff were polite and helpful, especially those on reception.
Recommended. I would go back there again.

We turned up in Salzburg having already booked a hotel out by the airport and were just planning on having a look around. We walked in to the Gablerbrau and realised we had stayed there some 9 years earlier. We asked how much a room would cost and were very pleased with the rate of 108 euros for a double. We were allowed to view the room first too which was great. The hotel may not compare to other 4 stars in other cities and countries but I dont think people should judge by what they find elsewhere. Anyway we cancelled our other hotel and checked in to the Gablerbrau and had a wonderful evenings stay. We enjoyed the free welcome drink in the hotel bar and then took a ten minute walk over to the Advent market by the Dom. We enjoyed the breakfast very much and will definitely return again. Wonderful hotel, in a great location with very friendly and helpful staff, what more can you ask for?

We stayed for 6 nights on August 2006 at the Gablebrau, and I must say that the hotel failed to meet our expectations. First of all this is certainly not a 4-star hotel whatsoever. Rooms were average in size and furnished in a very minimal, indifferenet 2-star hotel way. The only4 - star thing about this hotel was the breakfast. And I would expect a 4-star hotel to have air-conditioning, not the two silly small fans in the room, which did not have a mini-bar.

Even though the location of the hotel is great, being close to the old city and to the Mirabel gardens, it was one of the most noisy places I have ever stayed in. Despite the fact that our room was on the top floor this did not provide any comfort. There were nights that we did not get but a few hours of sleep, since scored of tourists were passing under our window til very late in the night, and around 7.00am in the morning trucks were supplying the restaurants.

On average, despite the great location, I would not reccomend this hotel.
