Stayed in the Josef Brunauer Zentrum from Oct. 21-23, 2007. I was pleasently surprised at the hotel quality when I arrived. It was larger than I was expecting. Got booked into room #114. My surprises continued as I stepped into my room. Instead of one room, it is divided into a series of rooms. The toilet and showers are in their own rooms and the bedroom is in a separate room from the tv room. The beds are comfortable and the shower has good water pressure but the shower cube could have been larger in my opinion, as could the toilet room where the door opened inwards towards the toilet.
The only complaint I have about the room is the soundproofing isn't the best as I was able to hear a baby crying in the room nextdoor very clearly for most of one night. Earplugs keep noises out during sleep though.
The breakfast spread is expansive and entirely organic.
The front desk I tried to buy a Salzburg Card for touring the town but all I would get after repeated attempts were city maps.
The hotel has vending machines on each floor but they are very expensive (2euros for a 0.3L soda) and it's better to buy food and drinks at the supermarket near the train station.
The location is not great but the hotel is good for the price and near the train station, making it a good place to stay if arriving by train

“Even better than it was before”

Myself and a group of friends stayed at the Josef-Brunauer Zentrum last week. I picked the hotel because I'd stayed there on a previous occasion and found it to be a lovely hotel and excellent value for money. It's also very handy for the bus and train station as it's only a 5 minute walk away so getting into the city centre or the airport is very easy. if you prefer to walk, it's only about 30 minutes into the old town or about 20 minutes to the Mirabell Palace and gardens.
On this occasion we paid £27 each for single rooms including buffet breakfast booked through Octopus Travel. The buffet breakfast is probably one of the best I've ever had. The hotel has only recently reopened after having a total refurbishment so all the rooms and facilities are brand new. I must stress however that the hotel is a conference hotel and I believe the restaurant is only open in the evening if the hotel is busy. This wasn't a problem for us because we preferred to eat out in Salzburg as there are many good restaurants.
There are lots of places to visit in and around Salzburg and I would recommend buying the Salzburg card for 1, 2 or 3 days. It includes all public transport including the airport bus so buy it at the airport.. Some of the must-do's are the Untersburg cable car, Mozart's Birthplace, Stiegle Brewery, Salzburg Fortress, Hellbrun Palace and river cruise. All free with the card plus many more.

We booked this hotel due to positive reviews on trip advisor and the price.Thankfully it lived up to the reviews. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and the balcony overlooking the gardens a bonus .There is a fridge, room safe but no kettle.
The staff very helpfull.
Unfortunately the hotel closes at the end of april for refurbishment, and will not open again untill september.
We certainly would go again.

“Great base for a short break”

Josef Brunauer Zentrum is a great base for a short break. We went for 2 nights in Feb and found this a very clean and cheap hotel (£40 per room per night) 5 mins walk from railway station and 20 mins from the beautiful Old Town of Salzburg.

Some reviews have been cool on the breakfast, but everything was there you could need, and all hams/cheese etc is organic and sourced locally. It was even open earlier than the 7am published time when we left, so we could get to airport quicker.

The room was lovely and clean, and spacious, and each room has a balcony. This is ostensibly a conference centre, but if you are not spedning lots of time at the hotel itself, this is no problem. If you do need to spend time there, there is a sauna, gym, and even a bowling alley, which is fun!!

I don't think you could get better value for the price, and it is definitely worth its 4 stars.

If you do go to Salzburg, be sure to buy a Salzburg card from the book stall in the airport - it gets you in to everything and all bus travel is included.

“Nice hotel, good price”

Hotel Salzburg Josef Brunauer

We stayed at Josef Brunauer Zentrum for 1 night during our austrian trip. The previous stay in Salzburg was at Mercure City, and, comparing these two hotels, I can say they both are worth it. Mercure is closer to the center, though Josef Brunauer Zentrum is a few steps away from the Bahnhof (railway station), which is needful if you plan to travel Austria by yourself. The hotel itself is a seminar & congress center, but I didn't mention any inconvenience related with seminars, expositions etc. Absolutely quiet and nice hotel with a nice small park, very good rooms and friendly staff. The internet is really free, but it's just a single machine in front of the reception. You can check your mail but if you plan to spend an hour or more surfing the web, you'd better go outside the hotel - just 100 m to the right you'll find a big trade center and an internet-cafe in front of it. 2,50 euro/hour - not cheap, but much cheaper than in Vienna (Salzburg is a cheap city if comparing it to Vienna or Munich, which is just 1,5 hours away by train).
And the last but not the least - the hotel offers very reasonable prices on single rooms (as well as on double). It wasn't the only reason why we chose it, but it counts.
