“in the center of the old city”

Hotel Goldene Ente

27 May 2008

The hotel is in the center of the old part of the city. If you’re coming in by train, the best way to get there is by taxi. It’s 5 minutes from the train station and it will cost you a little less than 8 euro. The hotel is truly rustic looking but what is important to us is that it is clean, quiet and safe. The toilette is clean and they give you fresh towels daily. Their breakfast is the typical European breakfast served at hotels. Ulrike the manager cum hostess is very pleasant and warm. It is a comfortable place to stay but if you’re looking for a 3 to 5 star hotel ambiance then this might not be to your liking.

P.S. The restaurant at the ground floor of the building serves a delicious apple strudel!

We were booked for three nights. If you dont mind sleeping next to a building site, literally, then this is the place for you. They were actually tearing down the wall and replastering the next room, work which began at 7am! My complaint was handled very unprofessionally the receptionist pointed out that i should go out for the day, totally irrelevant. She promised that work would be finished that day so we decided not to leave. We didnt need an alarm the next day as building work started at 7.15am (on easter saturday!!.) At no time were we told about the work and no apology was offered when we decided to leave a day early.
The receptionist/manager's patronising attitude actually made me more angry!
Previous review was correct our room looked nothing like the website photos...

This hotel was fabulous!!! The location was great. It's a very old hotel with loads of charm. We loved it and will stay again and again.
Don't forget to sit in the bar and have a dessert. Yummy!!

I was so looking forward to our stay at this hotel. The pictures on the hotel website make it look very elegant but these are pictures of apartments they have, not of rooms in the hotel. The rooms are very rustic...more like camping than a nice hotel. The rooms are in great need of updating, although our bathroom had been updated. It seemed clean but very, very worn. We were supposed to stay here two nights, but left and went to Munich a day early. The location is great but we saw many other hotels in the area which I would check out. I would never recommend this hotel. There must be nicer places in Salzburg!

“Difficult to find”

Hotel Goldene Ente

The Hotel, as already mentioned previously, is a nightmare to find but once found, it is a joy to behold as you are in the centre of things!. Its a 3 star Hotel with lots of rustic charm, we stayed in the suite on the fourth floor as there was four of us. The room only had a few drawbacks, no bath but a decent shower, no tea/coffee tray and no room service menu, (so bring your travel kettle if you like that cuppa very early in the morning!) Restaurant excellent downstairs and prices are reasonable. Staff in Hotel and restaurant very friendly and helpful, clean and well run. No cooked breakfast in the morning but you can have boiled eggs and what is on offer,(cheese and ham and a selection of breads also yoghurt and fruit) is very fresh and enjoyable, the lady works very hard in the morning, greeting you with a lovely smile and nothing is too much trouble, what more could you want?
