We booked this B&B b/c Euro 2008 had jacked up prices in town, and we thought it would be fun to try something different! It was not the worst experience in the world but there are several minor changes the owner could make to make the stay more enjoyable for guests.
It is quite far from town and hard to find. She can't change this but emailing detailed directions upon booking would have worked. When we stopped at McDonald's for directions, a local overheard us and kindly said we could follow him, as he lived nearby. We would have never found it otherwise.
Upon arrival, we had to guess where to park in the very narrow, crowded driveway. Someone ran out and shooed us away; told us to park where we thought for sure we'd be hit from behind. A "Guest Parking" sign would have been more pleasant.
Another guest answered our repeated knocks until Ms. Lindner finally appeared. There was very little communication (perhaps she is not comfortable speaking English?).
We were literally staying in Ms. Lindner's home, as opposed to other B&B's in which the hostess and her living quarters are separate/hidden from view. We ate breakfast (1 bread each, cheese, meat, juice/tea/coffee; no refills offered, no one asked if we needed anything else) in the dining room while the family ate about 10 feet away, in plane sight, in the kitchen. In other B&Bs, hostess has mingled and/or made sure guests were getting to know each other.
Shower in the room did not provide privacy as door was transparent. I figured out a way to hang a towel which helped. Water sprayed out several times. The water temperature shifted from ice cold to scalding through the entire shower. There is an extra charge for more than 1 shower per guest, per day, not that any of us wanted to shower again under these circumstances.
We needed pillowcases for extra pillows found in the armoire but felt we would be intruding (or charged an extra fee) if we asked for one. The 1 towel per person was thin and not changed during our 2-night stay. The light over the sink did not work. We never did find a trashcan; hope she empties the umbrella holder we used.
The floors and doors throughout the house squeaked very loudly, something that could be fixed. We shared a balcony with two other rooms; a privacy wall/screen could have easily been added. There was no A/C so everyone kept the doors open; one morning we walked out to the balcony to see the neighbor still in bed with his door wide open. Also, other guests smoked on the balcony so we had to close our door, which made our room hot. A fan would have been nice.
On the positive side, it was a clean, uniquely decorated place to stay, a bit adventuresome, and provided a pretty view.
