My partner and I, and my sister, stayed at the Star Inn for 5 nights over Christmas. The hotel being fairly new meant that the rooms were of good quality, and a nice size (although bathroom a bit on the small size). There is one thing that would make the room perfect, and that is the addition of a fridge for your own drinks and breakfast items. One bizarre thing was that when I asked for an iron and ironing board, I was told that they didn't have any, yet on the in-room services card, it said they did. Wasn't a big drama. When I asked for extra pillows, they were brought to the room instantly. Security in the hotel was good, and you had to use your room card in order to get to the floor from each lift. The hotel was in a great location, only 5-10 minutes walk to the beautiful streets of Salzburg. There is a supermarket and chemist just near the hotel. I can't comment on breakfast, as we didn't pay the €10 per day, but instead spent that money at the supermarket and had a feast! There is also a fantastic Chinese restaurant right next to the hotel, and a wine bar. I'll be staying here on my next trip to Salzburg.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights in December 2007.

It's clean, helpful staff and in a good location. Turn right, through the tunnel and within ten minutes you're in the old town.

From reading reviews on this site, we visited the chinese across the road - twice! Very nice food and they have a non-smoking section.

The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but there's an LCD on the wall and free wifi (if you don't have your own laptop, there's a general use PC in reception).

Didn't try breakfasts, just popped down to the local Spar.

Would definitely recommend this hotel, as long as you want new and not character.

As for Salzburg in winter - it was excellent.

Positives = 1) The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk to town. 2) The Chinese restaurant next door is open until midnight and the food is fabulous! 3) The hotel beds are comfortable & the room is extremely clean. 4) You can get cocktails at the front desk bar 24/7.

Negatives = 1) The air-conditioning is more so opening a window as opposed to turning down a thermostat. Granted, there is a thermostat but I think it is regulated by the front desk. 2) There isn’t any nightlife near the hotel.

Cool Tip >> If you want to tour the city ask an English speaking cab driver what his hourly rate is to take you around town --- should be around 25 euros an hour --- 8 of us did this and it was absolutely fabulous!!! No tour buses or long lines for us --- just a specialized tour for our group.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of August 2007. The location is ideal - very close to the Festival Hall and the Old Town - less than 10 minutes walk away. Staff were very friendly and our room was immaculate. Quite a typically bright, modern hotel chain (opened in July 2007) but nevertheless, everything was great.
Probably not ideal for those with walking difficulties as the walk from the hotel into the Old Town is via a rather long stone tunnel, (although this is very well used and at no time did we feel nervous - even at 11.30p.m.)
Hotel staff were very courteous and the buffet breakfast (approx 10 euro's if required) was good.
If you are looking for a reasonable priced, central, modern hotel as your base for your stay in Salzburg, this hotel is ideal.
We will definately be returning for another short break in a few weeks time.
