I absolutely love Kitzbuhel it's one of my favourite ski resorts, very romantic, great skiing when the weather/snow conditions are excellent, which they were the week we went, great food, amazing shopping, great bars/restaurants and if you are a smoker then cheaper ciggies. This was my 3rd time to Kitzbuhel and the only thing that was wrong with the holiday was staying at the Karlberger Chalet. There were 3 good things about this chalet one is the location to the Hahnenkamm gondola, it's a ski in location & the other was leaving the place. This could be a great chalet but my husband and I both agreed that the reps that live in the chalet just could not be bothered, even on 2 occasions we witnessed one of reps losing their temper when it was clearly their error in the 1st place. The food was rubbish, considering how great the food is in Austria we were appalled to be served some of food for our evening 3 course meal (a vegetarian meal = broccoli, mushrooms with stilton & a lasagna that was so dry it must have been in the over for months). The rooms are very small and could do with updating, there were fixtures and fittings (including electrical) that clearly needed repair. The ski storage was basically a run down garage and was so cold it was a nightmare getting your boots on in the morning. The showers are so small that my husband kept knocking the shower controls and kept scolding himself. When we arrived there was a smaller vehicle to take our luggage to the chalet as the coach could not go up the hill. This was really helpful but on our departure we were advised that there would be no vehicle to take our luggage down but the reps advised that they would help us.....The room where you eat is very small and everyone is sat together, which is a great way of meeting new people but sometimes you just want your own space, which is completely impossible in this chalet and the rooms are just not big enough or comfortable enough for you to chill out. Don't get me wrong if you are on budget and are in a large group this could be an ideal place for you and it was clean but Crystal charge quite a bit for this run down chalet, so if you do have the money or can save a bit more then I would highly recommend that you stay in the Hotel Best Western Premier Kaiserhof - Crystal (just up the hill from the Hahnenkamm gondola but closer than the Karlberger) or Hotel Schweizerhof - Inghams (we have stayed at this hotel before and it is an amazing place & opposite the Hahnenkamm gondola). We booked the Karlberger last minute, which before I arrived thought was a great deal for a last minute booking but never again, I would much rather pay the extra and stay in 1 of the 2 hotels I mentioned above but at the time of my booking they had no availability for the week that we could go, which just goes to show that sometimes you should book well in advance but this year it was not possible for us to to that. On a positive note if you do stay in Kitzbuhel try the Chizzo restaurant it's a great place that serves the most amazing traditional Austrian food & the staff make you feel very welcome, this is a popular restaurant with the locals so at weekends you will need to book a table . My husband also loved the Austrian dish "Tiroler Grostl", which is Roast potatoes, onions, pork with a fried egg on top...he liked it so much he had it on 3 occasions. So if you do happen to stay in a rubbish location there are many places that serve great food. The skiing is also amazing here I particularly love the Black 16a, 23, 17 and 38, Red 19 and Blue 26 and our favourite restaurant on the mountains was the Hockbrunn, which you can get to from Blue 16 or Black 16a. And when the snow conditions are good then you will love the skiing. I would also add that I would stay in other chalets again as in past my husband and I have stayed in some amazing chalets but unfortunately this one had more con's than pro's...Hope this helps and sorry if too long.
