Having read the Tripadvisor.com reviews for Vienna Hotels, my wife and I decided on the Kaiserin Elisabeth, we were not disappointed.
We took the CAT train from the Airport to Wien Mitte and the U-Bahn to Stephansplatz, on stepping off the escalator into the street the HKE was literally 2 minutes walk, so easy to get there. Everytime we went to the front desk we were treated with courtesy and helpfulness and were given advice and directions to restaurants, museums etc. Our room was large and beautifully appointed and overlooked Weihburggasse, bit dissappointed that the only English speaking channels on the TV were CNN and Sky Sport, often a tourist channel is found in major cities which is helpful, but hey, we weren't here to watch TV. This hotel is about as central as it gets and we walked everywhere apart from Schonbrunn which is a bit further out, and if we felt tired we would jump on the streetcar. We bought the Vienna card which gave us 72 hours of free travel on buses, trams and u-bahn and discounts for attractions, it cost €16.90 each and was good value. A lovely hotel in a beautiful city, we will definitely go back and stop at the HKE again. Oh, and it snowed while we were there, it was literally like icing on the cake and made the parks even more scenic.

My daughter and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Kaiserin Elisabeth. The room was large, lovely and immaculate. Breakfast was quite good- typically European. The front dest was the most helpful I have ever experienced in Europe. They asked if we liked our room, gave us dinner suggestions each evening, and were genuinely interested in whether or not we were enjoying ourselves. The location was incredible- it is literally steps from St. Stephan's and all the shopping, restaurants, etc. - we walked everywhere! It was sad to say goodbye, and we will surely stay there again, if we are lucky enough to return to Vienna.

The location of the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth absolutely cannot be beat. It is just steps off the Karnerstrasse Shopping District, also very close to St. Stephens and a short walk to the Opera House. We had a standard room which was very spacious with a large bathroom and both were kept very clean. Our room toward the back of the hotel was very quiet. Breakfast although pretty standard was adequate - the staff was very pleasant . The front desk was extremely helpful and booked a tour of Schonbrunn Palace for us with very short notice - don't miss it - the palace and grounds as well are quite beautiful. Also took a tour of the Opera House which I would recommend - the inside is just absolutely gorgeous. VIenna architecture is outstanding - what a beautiful city. We were there over a weekend and on our evening stroll down the Karnerstrasse we were entertained by a concert pianist, an opera singer and some other entertainers - all top notch. Overall Vienna is an enchanting city - loved it!

We loved the accomodations and location of Kaiserin Elisabeth. The rooms are comfortable, the location is central, and the breakfast is divine. We felt transported to an Old European capital. We can also recommend the hotel for families traveling with school-age kids.

Only one problem seriously eclipsed our stay at the hotel. we booked our reservation through hotels.com and had a receipt in hand, indicating a family of four, booked at 197 Euros. However, when we arrived after an all-night flight, the clerk told us the reservation did not indicate we had two children. Funny, they had our credit card number, billing info, dates of reservation, etc, but seemed to not have received this important information. He was ready to offer us additional beds for an extra 30 Euro, which was far below the regular rate, but still above what our contract indicated. We agreed, not wanting to spend too much energy on $40 while on vacation.

When we felt snookered though was when this same clerk urged us to buy tickets to the Mozart concert that night. He said only two tickets were available, and he could arrange tickets for all four of us if we bought at that moment. We agreed, unaware that Vienna is full of concerts on any evening. When he wrote up the ticket, though, he said we needed to give him 22 euro in cash, with no receipt, and then pay the balance by credit card at the concert hall.

How much did this clerk pocket off of us that morning? And where were the other staff overhearing all of this?

Aside from this unpleasant haggling, the hotel was delightful in appearance, service, and location.

I booked this hotel based on the good previous reviews and was not disappointed. You could not ask for a more central location (very close to Stephansplatz) and the staff were friendly and helpful.

My single room was rather small and had a very restricted view of an internal courtyard but as a comfortable base in the hearet of the city it was more than adequate.

I loved the small items of excellent service (for example, the waitress at breakfast remembering on my second morning my previous days order - so a pot of perfect coffee delivered unasked to my table immediately on arrival!) And the buffet breakfast is excellent too!

All in all a good value and very comfortable gem in the heart of Vienna.
