Whenever in Wien, I always stay at my favorite hotel, The Kugel. Centrally located, it is an easy walk to most museums, St. Stephan's Cathedral, and Schoenbrunn Palace. The renovated rooms are spacious, and very reasonably priced. Owner Johannes Roller always makes you feel like you're staying in one of his clean bedrooms, and the continental breakfast is more than adequate. It also offers excellent public transportation possibilities, as there is a tram pickup 50 meters from the front door. You can save enough staying at the Kugel to almost pay for all your other activites while in Wien. Please don't tell too many of your friends though, since there are only 40+ rooms! So book early, especially during the summer, holidays, and major events.

The last part of my tour through Europe, I stayed at Hotel Kugel, Vienna for eleven days. No where else (Prague, Budapest, Cairo) have I came upon such friendly & helpful staff as at Hotel Kugel. The accomodation was very satisfactory, but certainly the main asset of Hotel Kugel is the staff and managment that will do anything that you require in an utmost friendly manner! Nothing asked was too big or too small! From something as boiling water to something like phoning around, to find out about the best New Year's party in Vienna!

I truly recomend any one, stay at Hotel Kugel, which is superbly situated and very affordable, during your next visit to Vienna.

I have stayed at the HoteL kugel three times and was very happy with the service at the breakfast bar and also the friendly atmosphere of the family owner, Mr. Roller. He gave me all kinds of information on what to see in Vienna and other towns close by. I am going back in November to stay there. Definitely good value for the money and close to shops and reasonably priced restaurants.

I stayed 3 nights in the Kugel and thought it was a great hotel. Location wise it is very good. There's a tram stop opposite the front door while the closest underground station is only about a 10 minute walk away. Indeed the main sights of Vienna are within a reasonable walking distance. The museum quarter is about a 20 minute walk away and the Hofburg is only slightly further away.

The Spittleberg area, consisting of bars and restaurants, is also very close to the hotel. Indeed for good food and drink I would recommend 7 Stern Brau which is located just down the street from the Kugel.

The room we stayed in, while old fashioned, had great character and most importantly was clean. The ensuite facilities were modern and very clean. Indeed the room and the ensuite facilities were cleaned every day.

The breakfast consisted of museli, ham, salami, cheese, rolls, orange juice and coffee or tea. While I've had better breakfasts in other hotels, the breakfast was more than adequate for me.

All the staff were friendly.

At 80 Euros per night for a twin room, I thought the hotel represented good value for money by Vienna standards. If I'm ever in Vienna again I certainly will look to stay in Hotel Kugel.
