We first heard about the Alstadt on Samantha Brown's travel show. It looked inviting, so we booked it for October, 2006 after affirming its high rating in TripAdvisor. We arrived via the tram from the train station and had to hike a few blocks to its street. We found out that the street numbering system didn't make a lot of sense, but finally found the well-hidden hotel on a quiet side street. The hotel is within a residential building and you take an elevator to the small lobby. The front desk staff was excellent. Do take their advice regarding restaurants. There are several excellent ones within a few blocks. The continental breakfast is served in several very attractive rooms and the selection is very good. Our room was OK but we kept hearing the sound of glass breaking outside. I finally figured out that the row of large green containers across the street were recycling bins. Mystery solved. The Alstadt is a relatively good value for Vienna.
