Booked this hotel as it seemed not ridiculously inconvenient (next to a subway station) and well priced compared to centrally located Vienna hotels. Stayed for two nights. Although it is close to the U-Bahn station, if you arrive at night you may have some trouble finding it - you might not want to stand in front of the U-Bahn station consulting the map, looking "touristy" after dark. As well as finding the hotel its difficult to locate the hotel entrance - there's little to suggest where it is in the building facade. Nearby is the shopping complex (Gasometer) which includes a supermarket and McDonald's, as well as other eating options which is handy. I'm not sure how successful the re-development has been as several tenants in the shopping complex have their names taped over on the centre guide (I assume they have closed down).
First impression of the hotel wasn't that great. They appear to cram the restaurant and bar area into the lobby, and as such arriving around 10pm I felt like I was checking in at a bar full of drinkers. Lobby staff member seemed friendly enough initially till I asked him if he spoke English, when his manner became a little downbeat. Gave me two room access cards for some reason.
Room is fairly basic, but the hotel is new, and it is clean. Despite the building being fairly low rise, the lifts get busy. Appears they have no service lift as service staff with trolleys etc also waiting to use lift at times. Room came without a "do not disturb" card, so was disturbed by cleaning staff on my first morning there. Also was pleased to see a safe in the room. Not pleased to see that it was not working. The only "extras" that were provided were a shoe shine kit (why I have no idea) and shower gel / hand wash in the bathroom.
As with one other reviewer's comments there is no shower curtain/door in the bathroom so water goes everywhere. There is also no bathroom door, but there is a mirror opposite the bathroom to reflect the image of you in your birthday suit to anyone else who might be in the room while you are in the bathroom, which means zero privacy. If you are with a friend and they wander / look the wrong way, or if housekeeping walks in on you because there is no "Do Not Disturb" sign in the room, there is a 90% chance they will see you naked.
I assume the hotel has facilities to offer on its premises. But as there is absolutely no printed information provided in the room, I can't tell you what these are. The TV system tries to be funky, with in room internet through a keyboard (available from reception? Not sure, no information provided), and tv channels accessible through a menu, but it just succeeds in being clunky and user un-friendly in my opinion. Housekeeping seemed to be finishing their work at around 5pm (they were trying to get into my room at 9am) but on entering my room they had done nothing other than empty my bin and fold up my duvet. Towels still in their original place. In the evening single internet access terminal in the lobby seemed to be inhabited by same internet junkie every time I went past it.
The area around the hotel has been redeveloped, and includes student accommodation. Some of this is located next to the hotel. On the second night the students decided to drink and play music at high decibel level until about 4 in the morning. After checking in (if you decide to stay in this hotel) and going to your room you look out the window and see faded signs saying "Beer" and "Cocktails" over some doorways opposite, you may want to consider requesting an alternative room.
I am usually pretty easy going and easily pleased, but my experience left me cold and feeling that the hotel is unremarkable. I won't be staying there again.
