I just stayed two nights in Vienna at the Roomz Vienna, my parents had an additional room, and my brother and his friend a third room.

All in all it was a very nice hotel; clean and very "chic". As mentioned above, the shower is somewhat open, only a clear glass piece to separate the shower stall from the sink, (only 3 walls overall). The shower water pressure was excellent, but I wasn't crazy about the open-ness of the shower as I flooded the sink area a bit...

One major surprise and disappointment was the breakfast charge. When I booked through hotels.com the amenities listed breakfast, did not say anything about fees or surcharge (the restaurant, which was where breakfast was served was listed separately) and other amenities which cost extra were indicated as such. The hotel literature mentioned breakfast times and then the times the restaurant was opened, not mentioning anything about the cost for breakfast. Further, there was nothing posted in the breakfast area to indicate any cost for the breakfast, and it was set up buffet style. As I booked it under the assumption of the free breakfast, and was not given any indication otherwise, I was quite shocked when we were charged 13,50 euro each person, each day for breakfast (It ended up costing 108 Euro when we checked out) and in my opinion, that breakfast was not worth that much money. We realized we had spent more on breakfast for the two days than we spent on dinner!

If we had known that they would have charged us that much, we wouldn't have eaten there, as the hotel is located right next to Gasometer City, which is basically a huge mall with numerous restaurants and cafe's.

“Nice stylish hotel”

After reading the reviews here I decided to choose Roomz for our short visit to Vienna. It's a very modern and stylish hotel close to the underground. The surrounding area is quite industrial though.

We liked the room very much, the colours were nice and the bathroom was quite unique. It does not give too much privacy so make sure you don't share the room with your colleague on a business trip :-)

The only problem we had was that the heating did not seem to function without the keycard i.e. you had to actually be in the room to get heat from the air conditioning machine (there were no radiators). Not so clever solution especially in the winter.

The food was fine and at a reasonable price. We were surprised in the morning though that we were charged for the breakfast because the reservation made via one of these booking agencies did not include its price. We sure should have seen it coming but I would not ever think of this - I have never seen such kind of thing. We left with good feelings though, we really enjoyed staying in this hotel.

We stayed there with my wife for 4 days at January 2008. Great hotel with friendly staff. Had to turn off the heating after the first night, otherwise the temperature was like Morocco at August. Subway station was 1-2 minutes away, on a line with direct access to Stephansplatz. We've already recomended this hotel to our friends.

We stayed here for 3 nights between Christmas and New Years. We found it to be very clean, up to date and well priced. The staff was also very friendly and courteous. Roomz is located next to a small shopping center and a five minute walk to the U3 line, which leads directly to the inner city (Stephansplatz) without having to change trains.

I truly can find nothing wrong with this hotel. We chose it because of its price and its proximity to the U3 line. The only thing that is missing is the feel of Vienna’s old city. If this is your first trip to Vienna I would recommend staying closer to the city center so that you can experience the true atmosphere of this great city. Otherwise, stay at Roomz and travel in on the u-bahn to save money.

“Budget Design or Design Budget?”

Roomz Vienna

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Stayed here for 2 nights in November for a concert at the Gasometer, which is just around the corner and visible from many of the rooms. The location is good if you don't want to be in the centre of Vienna, especially if you don't have a late one or don't mind taking a taxi from the centre of town. The Gasometer Metro is only a couple minutes away by foot, and taxi to the airport is around 15 minutes without any traffic. There are various ways to get to the hotel by public transport, but the quickest is the CAT to the city, then the Metro back to the hotel. (The price differential vs. a central hotel would cover 1 or 2 taxi rides anyway.)

The design of the hotel was more interesting than an average "budget" hotel, which is OK if you don't mind lime green. If you do mind lime green, perhaps somewhere more traditional would be appropriate.

Food in the restaurant is quite good. Modern Asian theme, and everything was freshly prepared. Beer is under 2 euro/pint (I can't remember exactly).

Everything in the room worked well, although there was no WiFi in the rooms. The cleaning standards were very good.

The only other drawback was the Dove shower cream from the dispenser in the shower. There was no proper shampoo supplied and I'm not convinced that it's good for your hair. So maybe think about bringing your own.

Although not a drawback personally, some people might be put off by the open plan shower & sink (no door between the bathroom and the main hotel room). The toilet, of course, does have a door.

I would stay again for any upcoming trips to Vienna.
