Have to work for 6 weeks in Drammen, and have so far spent 5 weeks at this hotel.
Location: 2 minute walk from Drammen station with good access to bus and train. It is a 30-50 min trainride (depending on type of train) to Oslo. Also trains going directly to Oslo Airport and Sandefjord (Torp) Airport.
First impression: The reception is quite small, but the staff is mainly very friendly. However, there are many different people working in the reception, so even though I have spent many many nights at this hotel, no receeptionist is recognizing me.
The hotel got 5 wings, and it can be a bit confusing to find your room.
The A-D wing is in the new part of the hotel where the rooms are in better shape. The rooms with a view to the streets have some noise problems (busy street, bus "terminal" and railroad next to the hotel).
The rooms with a 'view' to the back yard are much more quiet and is recommended if you need to sleep longer than 7am.
The E wing is in the other side of the reception and is connected with bridges to the A-D wings. This wing is older and the rooms are more worn-out. However, they got more of a "home feeling" to them. Unfortunately, it seems that all of the rooms in this wing are smoker rooms, so they got this smokey smell when you enter them. These rooms are qutie nosy as they this wing does not have a closed backyard.
The bathrooms are quite similar on all the rooms. Some have a bathtub, but most have showers.
During my weeks on this hotel, I have not had a problem with the cleaning of my rooms.. It has been spotless every day.
Unfortunetely, none of the rooms have aircondition. This part of Norway can get very warm in May - August and with no Aircondition the rooms get very hot too. Opening the window does not help until the sun goes down.
All rooms have a TV and a minibar. The TV have most of the Norwegian channels (except TVN), some Swedish and Danish channels, CNN and paytv. The pay tv is only TV1000 (cable tv) and some adult.
The minibar is redicilously expensive, and it is much cheaper to cross the street and buy what you need in the kiosk. For alcohole it is cheaper to go down to the hotel bar, or better, go to the shop 200 meters away and buy beer there - before 8pm (6pm on saturdays).
Internet is free for guests and does not cost 12 euro as some of the other reviews say. This might have changed recently though.
Sadly, the wireless is quite crappy in the evening when it is used by many guests. The hotel really needs to upgrade its internet capasity.
Parking in the basement is expensive. However, there are not that many alternatives. Luckily, my job has its own parkingplace so I did not have to use the hotel one.
Guests:
It is a hotel for both conferences and short term / weekend guests. However, it is not suited for long term stays like mine.
Breakfast:
The breakfast is rather limited and I find myself eating the same thing every morning. It has also the tendency of being crowded with conference guests, and if you want to eat at 9.30 rather than 6.30, most of the food will be gone or cold.
Resturant:
So far I have yet to see a single guest eating in the resturant in the evening. It could be because they do not advertise proplery.. I would like to see a menu before I sit down, but that is not available. So without a menu at the entrance, and the risk of being the only guest in the entire resturant makes me cross the street and eat a kebab instead.
Bar: seems quite cosy, but have not tried it.
Final conclusion:
The hotel is ok but it is not a home.
