I spent three nights here (long weekend) in October. The staff very friendly and helpful, and all spoke fluent English – of course. The (single, non-smoking) room I stayed in was bright, comfortable, clean and modern. The breakfasts are great – but the restaurant ('Kaffistova') can get a bit crowded. Try the restaurant for your evening meal too – I had a great main course one night of elk-burger! Cheap too – by Norwegian standards. However, the one BIG problem with this hotel is the noise – from outside. The hotel is situated right off Karl Johans Gate – with pubs and nightclubs all around. The noise from the street at throwing out time and afterwards (1-4 a.m.) was terrible. (The fact that the room didn’t have double glazing didn’t help, of course.) This was in late October – goodness knows what it’s like in summer! So, if you want a good night’s sleep then take ear-plugs. Seriously.
Overall, a perfectly adequate hotel, which I would recommend. But DON’T forget those ear-plugs.
