We had to stay at this hotel as Oslo was full to bursting & nowhere else had any vacancies. When I realised it was outside Oslo I was dismayed & having visions of being in the middle of nowhere especially after I had read the reviews here! Well how wrong I was. Yes this hotel is not typical of its 4/5* rating, I'd probably give it a 3*. The entrance & bar look v plush however & if you arrive late, you'd be silly not to have a drink there to celebrate your arrival (pricey though but what do you expect? You're in a hotel & you're in Norway! But what the hell..you're on holiday). The rooms are small & pokey with shabby furniture so don't expect a lot. The bed was firm though. On the plus side, although it is outside Oslo it literally is between 5 & 10 minutes by bus into the heart of Oslo. The buses run all day & frequently. (If you are going to sight see, buy a day travel card on the bus which gives you unlimited travel on tube, tram, bus & boat. Not all buses sell them however so wait for one that does so you don't pay more than you need to). In addition, if you are flying in with Ryan Air & arriving at the Torp airport, it is en route from the airport & the airport coach into Oslo will drop you off at Lysaker station on the way (you will have to get a taxi from here though but it's only 2 mins & will cost approx 130Kr). The bus stop from the hotel is a 5 min walk & as it's outside Oslo, you can smell the fresh, clean Norweigan air. In addition, the buses run until about 1am so you can still have a meal & a few drinks in Oslo & still catch the last bus home. The best part is that the hotel backs onto a fjord but I think to call it a 'beach' is pushing their luck! It is a stretch of scrubby sand. However, there is a tiny pier & to sit outside & look across this beautful view & watch the sun go down is, in my opinion, worth having to catch a bus & putting up with a 10 min journey into town & back. Another bonus is that it's cheaper than its main counterparts too as it's outside Oslo. There is Norweigan telly which shows American films & programmes in English with Norweigan subtitles too and oh yes, it's true what they say. The breakfasts are amazing, one of those & you can skip lunch. We had an excellent stay here & I'd thoroughly recommend it.
