I enjoyed my stay here and it was cheap in comparison to a lot of Bergen. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are again small, but very functional. The location is excellent, only a short walk from the centre of Bergen (which is small).

In summary, the hotel is extremely comfortable and worth a stay. They offer free coffee and water throughout your stay and whilst this doesn't seem much, try buying a coffee in Bergen and see how much it costs!!

Overall a good stay and well done the Comfort Hotel.

Holberg is located in central Bergen - near Nykirken, a short (5-10 minute) walk from Torgalmenningen and the Fish Market. The hotel is situated near what will have to be described as the "red light district" of Bergen - but don't let that bother you too much, chances are you won't even notice this.

We had a standard twin / double room. Our room seemed somewhat dated, and it was a bit on the small side - the bathroom is particularly tiny. The sink / mirror is placed in a corner of the main room, instead of in the toilet / shower room (some of the rooms have tiny bathtubs) - and oddly enough, when you switch on the light in the bathroom the light by the sink in the bedroom is *also* turned on - which can be rather annoying at night...:op Our bedroom was clean, but the bathroom could use a good scrub. The maids also forgot to clean our room one morning. (!) The beds were rather narrow, but there was a good-sized work desk, and a table / small sofa.

Amenities included a TV (with a good selection of channels), a trouser press, hair dryer and a minibar.

A nice buffet breakfast is included in most room rates (75 NOK per person if not included, well worth that price). A very good selection of bread, rolls, crispbread and crackers, cold meats and cheese (and some local specialties, such as brunost - brown cheese), cereals, yoghurt, fruit... some hot food (sausages, eggs, beans) is also available. Free coffee and tea available in the reception area all day.

A double room at Hotel Holberg usually costs from ca 650 NOK (not including breakfast).

Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel - the connection is fast and reliable, but you have to get an access code (which only lasts 8 hours) from the reception to get online. There's also a computer available in the reception area.

You'll usually find the best deals on the hotel's own website. We booked through their website, and decided to stay an additional night. We asked the receptionist if we could extend the reservation, and was told that "sure, no problem" - but when we checked out, the rate for the last night had increased from 650 NOK to 900 NOK, and we were told that "internet reservations could not be extended". I was not impressed.

Given the high prices in hotel in Bergen, the Comfort Inn is a bargain for the money-conscious traveller. The rooms (and the bathrooms) are not very big, but are immaculately clean. The hotel is situated away from the center of town (although only a 5-10 minute walk, as Bergen is not very big). The breakfast was just OK...we've had much better at other Scandinavian hotels. All in all though, we would definitely stay there again.

We had booked a double and a triple room a month in advance, arrived late in the evening, checked in, received our five keys and went up to two double rooms. When questioned, the hotel sent a man with a rollaway who had to empty all of the furniture out of one room in order to fit the bed into it. The room was literally wall-to-wall beds with a small walkway at the end of them. With three suitcases, the room was unusable.

However, having said that, if there are just two of you and you do not intend to spend a lot of time in your room, the rooms really are sufficient in size. Ours were very basic rooms, freshly painted and clean. The breakfast was very good and the staff was helpful. We had to leave early to catch our flight the last day before the breakfast opened, so the staff prepared breakfasts for us the day before and kept them in the hotel refrigerator.

The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the train station and a 10-15 minute walk to the flybussen stop that takes you to the airport. It is 10-15 minutes from the fish market. Bryggen area and funicular. There are some great areas of older residentials behind the hotel and up the hill which make an interesting walking tour.

Again, if two of you want a very basic, clean room with a great breakfast, this hotel works.
