This review is my first impression - I arrived today. The staff seems nice, helpful and skilled. Also, WiFi is free (good), but unsecured (very bad - is that a Scandic standard?).
Still, I am sad to say I must completely agree with Roar S. One night seems to be enough. Unfortunately, I will have to stay two more. In genereal, the impression is that the hotel should have been renewed many years, if not decades, ago...
Honestly, I can not remember when I was this disappointed with the standard of a Norwegian hotel! I am probably a bit spoiled, but this is very far from the refreshing and relaxing experiences I normally have in Norwegian hotel rooms. The room is quite big, but it seems to have carpets and furniture from the mid 80s.The TV seems to be of the same age (20" CRT and it is deeper than wide), but the mini-bar looks a bit more modern. When closed, the windows still feels open.
The air in the room is really not good, and the smell in the bathroom is far from "invtiing" and indicates something is wrong. This is of course subjective and probably wrong, but I get a sneaking "feeling" that staying here for three nights is not the most healthy thing to do.
I have tried to change room, but the one I was offered was of the same standard.
I have a room away from the street, but still the noise has been terrible. Still not quiet, but it got better a bit after midnight. I was told that the noice was due to ventilation from one of the restaurants.
I really, really, really can not understand how RL62 can say that the hotel is "completly revamped and an excellent Scandic". Well, I problably will never find out how the "revamped" hotel will be, because it is unlikely I will return.
