My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights, for about £40/night, and were very impressed. It's an expensive part of the world and we were not expecting to be impressed.

The location is fairly central: no more than a 10-minute walk from the mainb harbour with the fish market (great to visit) and the Bryggen timbered houses. We were in the 'new wing' on the other side of the street to the main hotel. The room was reasonably spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff were courteous and helpful. The free internet connection in the reception was a nice touch.

The buffet breakfast was absolutely superb: rolls, bread, big choice of herring, fruits, etc.

Overall, I would happily recommend and return to this hotel.

This hotel left a lot to be desired. First, the positive: it was a pretty close walk to the downtown area. The breakfast buffet was very good. Unfortunately, it stops there. My room was dirty, with large stains on the bedspreads, cracked wooden door and evidence of leaking through the ceiling. It was also very noisy. There was a lot of street noise coming in, plus i was awoken by some construction guys early in the morning. This hotel definately needs a face lift, it's dated and depressing.

Staff was nice but the facility and accomodatio is really old. We paid over $100 per night but it was not worth it!!! The room was dark. The bathrooms didn't even have hotel toiletries available. Shampoo and shower gel were pump units off the wall. I would not walk on the carpet without my slippers. Full size bed was 2 twins put together. Bed was also very soft and room was extremely dark. Definitely not worth the money.

The hotel was nice enough. The rooms were nice and tidy and the bathrooms were modern with underfloor heating.
However, i found the rooms noisy from people out on the street coming out of the cinema.
It was also noisy because of workmen on the ground flooor drilling away, starting at some stupid time in the morning, however it did get me up early and make best use of the buffet breakfast which i stocked up on since it would save me spending lots of food later in the day.
I asked to change rooms but they said that all the rooms were that noisy. I think a room discount should've been offered since I wasn't warned about the noise.
The staff were pleasant enough too and lcoation was ok.
I dont think i'd stay here again though, overpriced I think.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Stock up on the free buffet breakkie and save money throughout the day as its very expensive.

Although the hotel is part of the Hilton chain dont expect the usual Hilton standards. This is a 3* hotel but is priced accordingly. First impressions were good. The staff were friendly and helpful the room was reasonably large, very clean and newly refurbished. The location is great - not quite central but in easy walking distance of everything. The bar is very expensive though - even by Norwegian standards.

The problems came at 7am in the morning. They are in the middle of putting in a new bar on the ground floor and we were awoken by drilling and hammering at 7 am that shook the whole buliding. We were on the 5th floor but it sounded like they were in our room. This went on till 9am. When we complained we were told that most people staying at the hotel were attending a conference and so were up early so the hotel took the view that the noise wouldn't bother anyone. Not too good for people staying for a holiday who wanted a lie in. We were not warned of this when we booked or checked in which I thought was poor. They were apologetic at reception but said that they had a deadline for the work to be completed and so there was nothing they could do. We promptly checked out and moved to the radisson.

Apart from the noise the hotel was very good. If you want a lie in (beyond 7am!!!!) I suggest you dont stay here until the work is completed.
