Absolutely the best thing about this hotel is its location, both for sightseeing and for arrival and departure. (We arrived by ferry from Balestrand and left on the airport bus - both involved a walk of only a minute or so.) This also means a stunning view - so long as you are at the front - across to Bryggen, or watching the comings and goings at the Torget market.

The other big plus is the free tea and coffee available all day in the dining room. As the hotel is so central it is just as easy to pop in for a cuppa during the day as to go to a cafe, thus saving quite a bit (bearing in mind how expensive Norway can be!)

Our room was smallish and fairly basic - storage very limited -, though the bathroom was clearly more recently refurbished and looked smart, with efficient underfloor heating. The room was adequately cleaned before we arrived, but mid-stay cleaning was perfunctory. No hairdryer.

While the breakfast was of reasonable quality, staff often had difficulty keeping up with supplies both of food and crockery, and tables were sometimes slow to be cleared.

Reception staff were friendly and efficient, and allowed us a later check-out without extra charge as our room was not due to be re-occupied until the evening.

There is only one small lift, which sometimes means a long wait, especially if a group has just checked in.

Stopped here for three nights before and one night after Hurtigruten. Location is convenient, staff helpful, breakfast good (free tea and coffee all day). Pleasant little roof terrace.

Building is old and rooms without air conditioning. Heating is ancient. Choice between stuffy room with window shut and traffic (and reveller) noise with it open - suspect this could be a real problem in summer. Lifts small and can't cope at busy times.

Both our rooms had good view over Vågen to Bryggen. Outward we had a nice big room. Return we had very small room with inadequate hanging and luggage space and poorer (though adequate) shower room. Shower rooms well cleaned but room not vacuumed during three night stay outbound.

Stayed here for one night. great situation right on the Harbour front. Room charming, very large and spotless.Breakfast was excellent, breads were particularly nice.Best of all were the very helpful reception staff who made every effort to meet our needs and requests.

Only slight problem was noise from bar/disco however this did not go on very late.

I would recommend the hotel and would go back again.

Stayed here after the round trip hurtigruten. Hotel located right by the harbour, facing Bryggen. Rooms a little old-fashioned but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Reception staff very helpful and breakfast available early for us as we had to leave before 7am. All in, I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a reasonable hotel right in the centre of Bergen and would stay there again.
