“Good outside, but dissapointing inside”

Chatsworth Hotel

The outside of the hotel looks impressive, as does the lobby, but it's all downhill from there. The hotel is "tired" and needs a couple of million spent on it to bring it up to standard. Our room was really small, with badly fitted units, more suited to a single room rather than a double. Really overpriced for what we got. Breakfast was ok, but overall not somewhere that I would ever consider going back to.

“Not worth it at the Chatsworth”

Chatsworth Hotel

My wife and I only spent one night in this hotel. Thank Goodness!! It was in January, I know, not in the peak season to be staying in a seaside hotel. We were working at a conference in Eastbourne so were the least we were hoping for was a good night's sleep, let alone a comfortable stay.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The room was dingy, smelly, and toilet was broken. And then of course we were kept awake until 3am with a disco in the function room. Breakfast was cold and dried up, and when I asked for a refund, I was told to write to the manager. I did so three weeks ago, and still haven't heard a thing.
Would I recommend you stay at the Chatsworth? Not a chance!

“An absolute shambles!”

My husband and i only required a one night stay in Eastbourne whilst visiting family. Our normal hotel of choice was fully booked as were the majority of hotels due to various functions in the town. We booked the Chatsworth on line booking a superior room for £130.00 for the night. We arrived in the evening and went up to our room No. 41 on the 4th floor. The room was absolutely filthy, the stench when we opened the door was unbearable. the bedlinen was stained, carpet spattered with paint and the furnishings were cheap and tatty. The bathroom was awful and would have needed a total re-fit for anyone to be confident to enter. My husband immediately telephoned the receptionist who said that the only alternative was a twin seaview. This was marginally better but still dirty and shabby and in desperate need of a refurb. The general decor of the hotel was shabby and in need of some tlc. We spoke with the receptionist and informed her of the state of the rooms and the fact that we would not be staying the night under any circumstances. Thankfully the Lansdowne had one last room available which was clean and comfortable and less than half the price! Never ever again

“Needs a refit”

I agree with the earlier review regarding this hotel. A lovely old building that has unfortunately seen better days. If only the owners could spend money doing up the bedrooms this grand old lady would really shine. The common areas are good but the bedrooms are very poor indeed - the hotel could never gain another star while the bedrooms are in such a poor state.

There is a lovel old fashioned lift that adds a lot of atmosphere to the hotel and the staff were helpful but not outstandingly so. Our bedroom didn't have hot water and we moved very quickly to another room of equal (I'm afraid!) poor quality. it is a shame as this could be a really lovely hotel if money was spent on it.

“Disappointed yet again by the small independent 3* Hotels”

A one night stay at the Chatsworth Hotel was another disappointment in independently run hotels with a 3 star rating.

Whilst the food was excellent - both breakfast and evening meal, this definitely warranted the 3 star rating and possibly a bit more, but the rooms were very much a disappointment.

The rooms were very old, dated and shabby. We had booked one single side sea view room and one double side sea view room. Both rooms had very old and out of date furniture which had seen better days. The headboard in the double room was absolutely disgusting, discoloured, worn and very, very shabby. The carpet could have done with a good clean too.

The staff were friendly, but I'm sorry to say we will not be returning and this does nothing to promote the indepently run hotels and I would seriously consider before staying in other independents again.

There was also a very noisy wedding party going on, which we were not given any warning of at the time of booking, another dampener on the weekend. Shame as it was for a speical occasion.
