“Perhaps I didn't see the best of the hotel....”

St. Tudno Hotel

The St. Tudno positions itself as one of the better-class Llandudno hotels, and dazzles with an array of awards, so having set itself up,
I sincerely regret that I must knock it down a wee bit.

Having paid top whack - £95 ($190) - per night for bed and breakfast,
I was disappointed that my side-view room faced another hotel's corridor, and did not afford the seascapes that must be magnificent from the front rooms. My room was gloomy, not so big, but perfectly comfortable.

The complimentary pint of milk left in the mini bar was a nice touch,
and the only item missing which might reasonably been expected in a hotel of this class was a trouser press. Having seen that a Kit Kat in the mini bar was £1.50 ($3), I was disinclined to avail myself of the small bottle of champagne left in the room in case I exceeded my credit card limit!

The guests' lounges at the front of the hotel are very comfortable and beautifully decorated: just the sort of place to sit and watch the world go by, and the hotel also has a small swimming pool, which is a rarity here.

Breakfast, unfortunately, was a disappointment. I have a hunch I could have walked in to any of the small guest houses nearby and had the same, if not better. And, of course, for a fraction of the price.

The white toast was thin-sliced mass-produced bread, the marmalade looked and tasted ordinary, the bowl of corn flakes on the first morning was on the small size, and the porridge the next was so hot that the first spoonful almost scalded the roof of my mouth.

Having said all that, I can see that the St. Tudno could be the perfect place for a short break, particularly for couples. But insist
on a front room - particularly if you are paying full price - and hope that the breakfasts take on a more personal touch in the meantime: quality breads and marmalade would make a big difference for little extra outlay by the hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the St Tudno on the seafront at Llandudno for our wedding anniversary. We had a small room high up (beyond the reach of the lift) at the back of the hotel which had a four poster and no room for anything else. The staff admitted it had air conditioning because it got so hot! The restaurant provides very good food at high price and is successful despite its location in a viewless back yard extension to the hotel. Some friends who stayed in one of the first floor suites at the front of the hotel said they were much better but wickedly expensive. This sort of "boutique" hotel is obviously popular with many people but I would reccommend staying somewhere chaeper and just eating at the St Tudno.

This is one of the most enjoyable hotel stays I have ever had - the hotel, although not cheap, gives high quality and excellent service. Rooms are comfortable and staff friendly. We take our elderly mother who enjoys the sea views from the front suites. Highly recommend for a luxury break.

We have just returned from a most enjoyable stay at the St. Tudno Hotel. Our room was a delightful double with a bay window overlooking the sea, which though not large was beautifully appointed. Obviously the rooms at the back of the hotel will miss out on this lovely view. The hospitality on the part of every member of staff was beyond reproach, even though the owners were away, and the food was outstanding. Absence of piped music, and no smoking or mobile phones allowed in the restaurant was greatly appreciated !

We have recently returned from a short stay in this delightful seaside hotel. We have travelled all over the world but have found that the hospitality, staff and food are as good as anywhere we have stayed. We stayed in the Rhoda Suite with unrivalled views over Llandudno bay. Quite one of the best views for any hotel room. The room is beautifully appointed, absolute luxury with a spacious bathroom. Crisp Egyptian cotton sheets made for a blissful nights sleep. The food in the newly decorated restaurant was quite superb. I would strongly reccomend the grilled Scallops followed by beautifully presented Welsh Lamb (however the Welsh Black Beef of the Saturday evening equalled it.) The wine list has to be seen to be believed. The high standards were continued at breakfast, the nicest fresh orange juice I have ever tasted. For the entire stay NOTHING seemed too much trouble for the staff. The passion and commitment of the proprietors Martin and Janette Bland is evident in every tiny detail. We will definitely return.
