Having read some of the previous reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. We booked our break via Travelscene, an internet tour operator. We paid £55 each for a 2 night dinner, bed & breakfast stay. Had no trouble finding the hotel, do some research on the internet before you go, the hotel has a website with a location map. We parked on the promenade near to the hotel. There is a charge for parking on the prom, £2 for upto 4 hours, £3 for over 4 hours. Charging period is 10am to 4pm. We checked in on Friday at 12.45, the room was available straight away. The young man on reception was Asian and a little difficult to understand but very pleasant, make allowances for that. Our double room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the sea. The sheets were crisp & clean and there were 2 towels & soap provided. Towels were changed daily. The room had plenty of space but the compact bathroom does intrude. There was a TV & tea/coffee, no hairdryer (take your own). Dinner was of simple home cooked style & choices were offered, the veg was a bit overcooked but OK. Breakfast consisted of cereals, orange juice, toast and a small cooked breakfast. Extra toast was offered and extra tea/coffee if required. The very pleasant waitress was of eastern european origin, again, make allowances for possible language difficulties.
Service in the dining room is swift.
DO NOT leave your bedroom window open wide as the seagulls are very curious, one poked its head through the window.
To sum up, the hotel is Victorian so is showing signs of age, it looked as though the interior has recently been painted. It was not designed with en-suite facilities so compromises have to be made. It is a 2 star hotel, do not expect 4 star service (pay more & go next door). We paid for a budget break and that is what we got, in a small clean 2 star hotel. I have no complaints.
