Stayed here over the festive period.. We had read all the previous comments about this hotel and were cautious about what we were going to find. Upon arrival we were greeted politley and given the keys to our room. We paid £50 pn for 2 of us and for this we got a first floor sea view room. We had breakfast which was cereal, small english cooked and toast. The service was very efficient and we could not complain. Our room was serviced every day, tea and coffee topped up etc. All in all we had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is in need of decoration but due to the fact there are new owners, these things take time. We will definatley stay there again and look forward to watching this small business grow.

“Disgusting”

We booked a one night stay. We did not expect luxury but I was not expecting to see such filth. The person on the front desk quickly checked us in and gave us our key. Our room was on the 3rd floor, it was very small and what was a "double" room was a small 3/4 bed. The bed linen was dirty and had hairs on it. The curtain was hanging off the rail when I stood on the chair to fix it, I could not believe what I saw. The window sill was heavily marked with seagull dirt. I then noticed the top of the TV again was the same, it was disgusting. I appreciate the problems Llandudno has with seagulls but there was no excuse for this filth. There was also dirt on the walls. Immediately my husband & I left the hotel in search of alternative accommodation. Luckily we found a lovely clean hotel around the corner. We returned to the Elsinor and advised we would not be staying there due to the state of the room. He did not seem surprised at all, and checked us out. I would never return to this hotel.

We chose The Elsinore for our two night sojourn in Llandudno on the past recommendation of it being cheap and okay. We checked in with a friendly enough young Asian student type whose English was not fluent but who smiled and commented on the good weather. We hauled luggage up to 3rd floor - the corridors were narrow and like a maze and I recall ironically joking to my partner that I would not like to be here in the event of a fire. The room was small but we were in good spirits and unpacked quickly and got out to look around. Had good day but decided to call in hotel around eight o'clock for a cardi as it was getting a little chilly . Set foot on the stair and an alarm went off so we hesitated . The Asian looked alarmed himself and after unsuccesfully trying to reset the alarm another Asian man disappeared into the kitchen and returned ashen faced and made a grab for the fire extinguisher on the wall. The rest was history. We spent the next three and a half hours with the other residents including a tiny baby sitting on the porch watching dazed, some in slippers and dressing gown as three fire engines and a police van appeared sirens a go and a full team of fireman worked hard to deal with the fire which was serious and involved a chip fryer. The firemen struggled at times to communicate with the Asian staff who were panicky and seemed not to know how many guests they had and had checked rooms only by knocking ! The fire service were magnificent in their handling of a serious fire and reassuringly professional in their conduct. Not so the hoteliers. Throughout the debacle we were not informed of what was going on , what had been the cause of the fire indeed no verbal communication took place tight until the end when we were informed we would be accommodated at another hotel , 'The Somerset' down the road. No apology for inconvenience was made whatsoever. When the smoke had dispersed the firemen accompanied us in the dark up to our rooms where we had to gather our belongings and grope in the dark . I dread to think what might've happened. The only silver lining was that The Hotel Somerset where we were moved to was great , far superior, bigger rooms and altogether more pleasant and amenable. The Elsinore paid the extra cost so in the end we were onto a winner. Every cloud has a silver lining eh only this cloud could so easily have been fatal. The breakfast at The Somerset was lovely and the staff were friendly. We had a great few days especially as we were blessed with fine weather .

“Never again!”

On arrival the steps leading up to the hotel were dirty and didn't seem to have been cleaned for some time. Front gardens were in need of much attention. Pools of water had formed on terrace after heavy rain and this was not cleaned during our five day stay. Our room was basic but clean, windows would not open so too warm. Damp patch marks on upper part of walls. Hotel in urgent need of full refurbishment. Food was basic and not very hot. When staff were available they were very pleasant, but seemed to disappear after the evening meal when the reception and bar were closed and locked. Would not stay at this hotel again.

Having read some of the previous reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. We booked our break via Travelscene, an internet tour operator. We paid £55 each for a 2 night dinner, bed & breakfast stay. Had no trouble finding the hotel, do some research on the internet before you go, the hotel has a website with a location map. We parked on the promenade near to the hotel. There is a charge for parking on the prom, £2 for upto 4 hours, £3 for over 4 hours. Charging period is 10am to 4pm. We checked in on Friday at 12.45, the room was available straight away. The young man on reception was Asian and a little difficult to understand but very pleasant, make allowances for that. Our double room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the sea. The sheets were crisp & clean and there were 2 towels & soap provided. Towels were changed daily. The room had plenty of space but the compact bathroom does intrude. There was a TV & tea/coffee, no hairdryer (take your own). Dinner was of simple home cooked style & choices were offered, the veg was a bit overcooked but OK. Breakfast consisted of cereals, orange juice, toast and a small cooked breakfast. Extra toast was offered and extra tea/coffee if required. The very pleasant waitress was of eastern european origin, again, make allowances for possible language difficulties.
Service in the dining room is swift.
DO NOT leave your bedroom window open wide as the seagulls are very curious, one poked its head through the window.
To sum up, the hotel is Victorian so is showing signs of age, it looked as though the interior has recently been painted. It was not designed with en-suite facilities so compromises have to be made. It is a 2 star hotel, do not expect 4 star service (pay more & go next door). We paid for a budget break and that is what we got, in a small clean 2 star hotel. I have no complaints.
