All my "normal" hotels in the town were full and I rang everywhere on the offchance, and this place had a last minute cancellation, so I booked in. At the price I was paying (less than half the cheapest rate from any other hotel) my expectations were not high.

However, I was not only surprised by the quality of the place but amazed. In my opinion it is only surpassed by one hotel in the town, which has a nightly rate more than FOUR TIMES that of the Gables.

The guest house is situated in a very upmarket tree lined road full of huge victorian houses, right next to the lovely park. The building is a lovely looking place, with heaps of period features. So, about as good a location as exists in Ipswich.

There is ample parking at the front.

When I arrived I was asked what I would like for breakfast and what time. The landlady (who was EXCEEDINGLY helpful) gave me a wide range of cooked food to choose from and was flexible with the times.

I had one of the 6 en-suite rooms, which I just can't fault. All was clean, I had a TV, the room was fresh and cool (unlike the stuffy hotel rooms you get). It was homely, comfortable and generally fantastic. Plus you get all the other touches you usually have to pay a premium for (tea/coffee facilities, biscuits, tissues, shower Gel, Shampoo, TV, Clock radio, etc). The bathroom was clean too. Not the biggest, but big enough.

I had a crafty peek at one of the communal bathrooms in case I can't get an en-suite next time I stay (I WILL stay again), and again it was extremely clean and tidy.

The bed was comfortable and I slept solid. In the morning, I went down to breakfast and there was a choice of cereals before I tucked into the splendid scrambled eggs I ordered the night before, with Orange Juice and coffee.

How they do it for the money, I just don't know. If you compare to the other hotels in the town you would have to be mad to stay anywhere else.

Can I find any faults with it ? No.
Will I stay again ? Of course.

We stayed at the Gables of Park Road during our stay in May. The room was spacious and comfortable and very clean. The traditional breakfasts were very tasty and filling and kept us going well into the afternoon. Nancy, the manager was very accomodating and called us cabs when we needed them, as well as adjusted the time for breakfast when we had to leave early. The best part was it was walking distance to our relatives' place. We also enjoyed walking through the nearby park and visiting Christchurch Mansion on the grounds.
