Called in here to sample their two courses for £10.95 Early Bird menu, we were immediately shown to a table for two in the upstairs restaurant. There had been a Saturday Matinee on at the nearby theatre the restaurant was very busy – full of diners talking about the performance they had just seen.
We were served our bottle of wine very quickly, our starters followed soon after. The Italian Sausage starter was tasty, however the creamy tomato sauce that topped the dish off clashed with my blue shirt when the waiter dropped a used knife on me as he cleared our plates away. He apologised, but sought to excuse his “accident” by saying the knife was not on the plate correctly – whatever that was meant to mean! He asked if I required a hot cloth to help clean my shirt, I said I did – he did not return!! I went into the gents to wash my shirt and dry it under the hand dryer.
A waitress served the main course promptly and without further incident.
In summary: the food was reasonably good, but nothing exceptional, the service was generally quick and efficient – except for the knife incident, the premises are contemporary Italian in design and I am sure that if it had been it little less full of theatre goers and we had not have had a failed juggler as a waiter it would have been a more pleasant and relaxing experience than it was.
We might return to try Prego when it is less busy
