The duck was great, plenty of spring onion and cucumber too. Satay chicken sticks had plenty of flavour but no texture to source and chicken was very thin so was quite dry and tough. Main of sweat and sour chicken was ok, although taste of outer coating detracted from the source. Fried rice was better than many around Wakefield, but still not as white and fluffy as I like.
Portions were generous enough, staff were friendly and pretty good value. Some of the set meals were very good value. Seemed to be a number of regulars in.
I might have been a little unlucky with my starter and main, some of the other dishes and soups I saw on other tables looked very appetising, although my s&s chicken did look good... Nicely presented too.
Some hot dishes were on a thin bed of finely chopped lettuce, for no particular reason other than appearence. Trying to pick the food out of it was annoying.
We seem to struggle of a really good Chinese in Wakefield. China Wok is above average for the area, but a long way from the lovely cantonese food I enjoy in other parts of the country.
The search goes on...
(Ate in main upstairs restaurant. Was empty when I arrived at 7.15 on a Friday, but was quite busy by 8pm)
