Stayed one night on a stopover with family (kids 11, 13).
Hotel is centrally located and stands out somewhat from its surroundings; 13th century castle/country house set amidst a modern shopping area.
However once inside there is a pleasant ambience; everything feels quite relaxed and laid back.
We had two rooms and they were adequate; really nothing to get excited about but they were comfortable and clean. Wouldn't really have wanted to hang round in either of them to long though as they were quite small, hot and with didn't really have any touches that would make the hotel a 'destination'.
The main event I guess is the hotel's 'fine dining' restaurant. I've got to say I liked it, it was quite formal but not too stuffy and the food choice and qualty were excellent. My other half thought the staff were a little bit on the starchy side and certainly they could do with some quiet background music when the dining room only as 4 or 5 tables (avoids you having to listen to other people's conversation and you don't feel like you have to whisper to each other).
So, as a brief stop over, it beats a corporate chain hotel beside a motorway, but, beyond that, you aren't really going to want to take a detour to visit.
