Upon arrival, we were suitably impressed with the location. The receptionist was friendly. However, we were slightly taken aback to learn that our room was in the "townhouse", which happened to be a separate building approx. 200 yards from the main hotel building. Our room was on the top floor, accessed via two very narrow, winding staircases. This room is only suitable for fit and able-bodied, younger people. The bedroom itself was small (my partner and I kept bumping into each other), but the bathroom was better, being clean and of reasonable size. The only problem here was the fact that we had only one hand towel and one bath towel between us, although after advising reception of the problem, further towels were brought to our room. The towels were like sandpaper on your skin!!!
We both woke on Sunday with stiff necks and shoulders, because the pillows left a lot to be desired.
Breakfast was poor - the bacon was under-done (for us), the sausage skin was very tough and chewy, the scrambled egg was white and very milky (I thought scrambled egg was yellow??), and the toast was rock hard. Overall, the breakfast was fairly tasteless and a big disappointment.
One final point - the modern TV set-up looked good, but would have been better if we could have got it to work. There were no instructions anywhere so we couldn't change it from the default setting of VCR!!!!.
In summary, we were charged £125 for this experience. Our room was inconvenient to reach, claustrophobic once inside, the food was disappointing, and therefore the hotel is very overpriced.
